On the nose Wooden Moose Caramelised Banana & Peanut Butter Rum has a buttery aroma to it as one would expect. Drank neat, you immediately experience a sugary hit, which unfortunately neither tastes of caramelised banana nor peanut butter. Just a generic sweetness that is virtually impossible to describe. This is then followed by an alcohol burn so intense that the NHS could use this rum to remove patient’s tonsils! However, it’s not all bad news with this rum, because thankfully it does improve with Coca-Cola, (couldn’t really get any worse, truth be told.) Mixed with coke this rum definitely calms down, with the alcohol burn all but disappearing. The aroma becomes distinctly more banana and the rum ends up tasting like burnt, sorry my bad, caramelised banana. But what about the peanut butter I hear you ask? Very good question. I’ve no idea where that went, but it’s very much conspicuous by its absence. So at the risk of being a tad presumptuous, here’s my suggestion. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add two heaped tablespoons of smooth peanut butter spread, 100ml of this rum, top with vanilla milk, then shake vigorously for a good 30 seconds, and voila. A peanut butter & banana rum milkshake. You can thank me later!
