Truly a fantastic choice
S.B.S Guyana 2003 is a single barrel bottling with only 161 bottles. The rum was made in a French Savalle Column Still (SVL) in 2003. It looks colored, which is why it will likely be sweeter and more viscous than the other bottling from 2003.
Smell: The rum starts sweet and viscous with honey sweetness, caramel and coconut. A very rich smell that is rather sweet and incredibly inviting like a typical Enmore. The typical Enmore wood is there like walnut wood coated with honey.
I get a lot of ripe dried fruits like raisins, but also grapes, vanilla and melon. The rum also has a flowery aroma and almost seems to smell like tulips. There is a little liquorice, not excessive, but very nicely embedded.
A great, sweet smell that pulls me into its path.
Taste: It starts with caramel, sweet berries and coconut. A little tannins, dried fruits, honey, melon and vanilla are added. It becomes slightly spicy and, some tannins, honey and wood, pushes it further into the middle. Then it becomes very flowery and finally delivers candied fruits and berries of all kinds in the finish. Memories of slightly dried / fresh dates are awakened, but also of various berries.
Aftertaste: incredibly flowery, fruity, raspberries, wild berries
Conclusion: Beautiful and sweet rum with fantastic flavors integrated into a typical Enmore frame. I didn't expect that at all. If you like sweet and floral Demeraras, this is a fantastic rum for you. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any heavy aromas that could add more complexity.
I regret buying just one bottle at this point. Unfortunately, this bottling only consists of a few bottles, so I probably won't get any more.
