Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection for RA 2011
This is a nine year old rum from 2011 bottled with 59.8%. It was matured in bourbon barrels and bottled in 261 bottles. Distilled in the John Dore No. 1 and the Vendome pot still. We already know the dirty aromas from the Vendome pot still, let's see which aromas the John Dore still 1 adds.
Smell: The RA Chairman's has a huge Fiji touch. In a blind tasting, I would have located the rum immediately in Fiji. I smell honey, fermented vegetables, bright and at the same time salted fruits like melon. It is quite sharp on the nose and should breath a little longer in the glass.
Peppery notes are also not neglected, some light oak and vanilla are behind. It's got the balance between sweet and salty flavors. A very interesting barrel that RA chose. As a Fiji lover, I like it very much.
Taste: soft, slightly sweet / salty and also a little oily start. There are bright, salted fruits, such as melon and pear. The rum develops oily. The tannins appear with bitter notes and the olives appear together with the leather. The rum still holds the balance between salty and sweet notes.
Then peppery notes develop and the rum becomes spicier. The finish is a bit spicy, quite dry with oak, slightly salty notes and some tannins.
Aftertaste: salty fruits, oily notes and leather, tobacco
Conclusion: The rum has a heavy Fiji flavor that I didn't know in the form of Chairman's Reserve. If that were a Fiji rum, it would even be a very good one. I like how the rum keeps the balance between the salty and sweet notes. It didn’t correspond to what I expected, but the surprise was very successful. If you like this rum, you are welcome to look for more Fiji rums.
