Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star rum

Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star

Puerto Rico | Aged | 40% ABV

Ron del Barrilito 3 Star rum is produced in Bayamón Puerto Rico by the Fernández family, which has been producing rum in the area since 1804, making it the oldest rum manufacturer in Puerto Rico. The rum is first blended and then aged for a minimum of 6 years.

A single barrel of Ron del Barrilito rum was set aside in 1942 called the 'Freedom Barrel.' When Puerto Rico gains its independence the Freedom Barrel will be opened in the Bayamón town square for all to share.

"Barrilito tres estrellas" is a classic; still produced the same way as in the 19th century. Hard to find outside of PR -- in PR, it's the cheapest sipping rum -- at $20-25 per bottle, it's better than most rums twice that much. Perfect with a couple of rocks, or if you have to mix it, with a bit of dry cranberry and soda. Do not use it for cuba libres -- it would be a waste!

The definition of smooth. You hardly notice you're drinking a straight spirit.
This is not super appealing to me but I'm sure many will rate it highly for that fact.
The flavor profile is enjoyable and approachable, with caramel sweetness at the front, followed by oak spice and a finish of smoke and cinnamon.

Not worth the hype for me.

First time I tried this was at a rum tasting in St John, USVI. Lady running the tasting let me try this one when I asked what her “go to” rum was and it was this.
Great every day sipper for me.
Great price so worth the try.

Same heavy smoky flavor of their 2 Star, but just a touch smoother. Wood, caramel, and slight nail polish taste. Thin legs - flavor fades quickly.

Light woody aroma. Taste is little sweet with nuts and caramel. Aftertaste is a bit dry and could be longer, but in general it is nice surprise and very good rum suitable also for beginners.

It's nice and smokey, heavy, but not overwhelming. Nothing bad to say about it, it just didn't blow me away

It was cheaper in the airport. Do not buy in Old San Juan.

Aroma of oak, vanilla, smoke and ethanol. Honey caramel in color. Light to medium body with decent legs. Flavor stone fruit, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, pepper and smoke. Bit of burn and some lingering ethanol but it has mellowed since I first opened it a week ago. I like it more now than I did then. Very nice and complex rum. Would definitely recommend and will pick up another bottle if I get the chance. From previous pour it does mellow over an ice cube but that muddles the flavor and aroma a bit as well.

Drank neat in a Glencairn.

A terrific rum to drink neat with it’s oaky, vanilla, caramel, smokey notes. I also use it to make old fashioneds with just a little simple syrup and three dashes of orange bitters. Delicious!

Definitely the best Puerto Rican rum, wish I could afford the 4 star and give it a try. A bit hot up front bit mellows nice over ice. Lightly smoked but not over done. Buttery Maple aroma and sweet on the tongue.

Smooth with little afterburn. Can’t put my finger on a single flavor. Could be fine mixed or straight. Not a big fan of the twist top; prefer a cork.
