Not as good as the dark rum, but for the price it is a great purchase. Also great tour if you are in the Keys. Nothing artificial included.
Vanilla bomb! Pretty new to the rum world, but this is such a tasty spirit.
A smooth blond rum with a primarily vanilla flavor. A bit too sweet for some tastes.
I have trouble with what to think of this rum. From what I've read online, they claim no additives yet after tasting I have a hard time believing that. The taste to me is overwhelmingly maple syrup, and quite sweet/cloying on the palate in general. I overall do enjoy it for what it is, but certainly not my favorite. If you can get it for mid-$20s have at it!
This rum was definitely smoother, but less complex than other rums. It definitely had honey and vanilla notes, but I definitely don't think it's worth it at its price point. There are better options for cheaper, particularly for cocktails.
In 1943 Hemingway received permission from the US war department to hunt Nazi U-Boats with his yacht the โPilarโ. This is all true. He carried an assortment of rifles and figured he and his son would take some shots at the conning tower after reporting them to the US Navy. Fortunately for his son, they never spotted any. However, I am quite certain that the rum was flowing on those trips. This rum isnโt as good as the 7 year but it is still DAMN GOOD. A little on the sweet side. Lots of vanilla. Smooth and robust. Plenty of punch too. Unlike Hemingwayโs Nazi hunter yacht!
For a light rum there is an amazing amount of character here. The presentation is great as well.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

After my awful experience with Papa's Pilar Dark, I almost gave up on this company. However, after reading reviews from those who tried this Blonde as well as the Dark, I saw how mixed the opinions were on these very unique rums. I had no choice except to plunk down $27 for my bottle to form my own opinion.
The aroma is citrus and anise, but I tasted no anise on the palate, thank goodness. As a matter of fact, I tasted very little of anything on the palate, but going down the pipe is where those awful bitter Papa's Pilar tastes comes in from final aging in Spanish sherry casks. This after taste will make sure that it deserves no better than a 6 in my rating. I also seriously doubt that I will slowly learn to hate this one as I did with it's older Dark brother. I could come to love it, but I seriously doubt it.
This company also needs to learn a thing or two about taste and should consider hiring someone with good taste buds. The one that chooses the taste for their rums should clearly be fired since they have very poor judgement when it comes to rum. When a white rum is much better than their dark rum, this is a sure sign of trouble within. However, this stuff comes with a very nasty hangover the next day, so I dock it one point and won't buy any more from this company until they change tasters.
