Small jessica for rum ratings

I found this absolutely wonderful rum for only $30 US on my recent trip to the Emerald Coast of Florida over the last few days. At first, I was reluctant to buy a bottle. Then I read the back label that stated 65% from Guyana and 35% from Jamaica while being bottled at 90 proof. Knowing what I have learned about rums over these past three years, I figured that I could do no wrong in buying it. I also picked up a bottle of Hamilton Navy Strength Rum at 114 Proof and a few bottles of Pusser's Gunpowder Proof at 109 Proof. Comparisons awaited when I got back home.

Anytime that I take a risk on a new rum, it winds up being rated at 7 or less. I had no idea that this $30 rum would climb up into my overall rankings with each sip until reaching my middle 8. So what is my guess as to how they accomplished this? Inspired by Pusser's Gunpowder Proof, Hamilton Navy Strength, and various Black Tot's, it appears that their focus was to modify the percentages from each origin while lowering the ABV to a very drinkable 45%. They also wisely left out any rum from Barbados, which would only tame this rich flavor.

Looks like I was wrong on these crazy assumptions. This blend is strictly from Hamilton rums, which I do not have the three on hand that probably make up this one. Just do the math!

Oh by the way, what does it taste like? If you can imagine a lower proof version of Plantation OFTD crossed with El Dorado 8, then you are getting close, but still no cigar. I am terrible with tasting notes and don't respect most of those, since the liquids and the barrels often never came anywhere near to those so called "professional tasting notes". No age statement is provided on the bottle and there is probably no added sugar.

Judging from the other rums that they endorse on their website, this Florida Rum Society has some damn good taste buds. Since I have been a frequent visitor to Florida for the past 35 years and I actually live in what used to be part of the Republic of West Florida, I probably should join them.

Anytime I stumble upon a really good rum like this one that is hard to replace, I always try to replicate it from my own collection. No matter what I tried, it could not beat the taste of this one. This is strong hogo funk in perfect balance with demerara rum, with neither side obliterating the other. I should go back to Florida real soon and buy up all that I can find because this is an exclusive edition. This rum is worth every effort to get a hold of!

This rum is also not for wimps. I added water to some Plantation OFTD to bring it down to 90 proof like this one. Then came the side by side comparison. This one certainly has more flavor, but also a lot of burn. There was no burn at all from the OFTD.
