This is the Foursquare bottling exclusive release that was somewhat botched by the LCBO. Only 300 bottles were produced, and bottles showed up randomly at stores (sometimes without a buying limit). Due to the popularity, and bottles rarely sitting on a shelf for longer than 24 hours, rumor has it that the LCBO will be ordering some more to fill the unexpected demand.

On with the tasting!

The nose is oak, ginger, pepper, sherry, orange zest, apricot and honey. Water adds a little sourness and raspberry to the nose.

The palate is light strawberry, and water adds some vanilla and honey. I prefer the palate with a bit of water as it reduces some of the oak dryness.

The finish is medium in length and tastes of ginger, pepper and oak, but still a little dry even with the addition of water.

This Foursquare has less sherry influence than the premise, but has more oak influence and a slight increase in complexity. Since I prefer the slightly sweeter notes found in some other Foursquare, I tend to like this one a little less (but still a great rum, especially at the price of $81CAD).

Update: In comparing to some other Foursquare, I find this one has more alcohol on the nose than even 2008 FS ECS. Perhaps there is more column still in this blend? I still think there really isn't anything else like this available in Ontario, so I think it's still correctly priced - just wish we could get other FS offerings.

48° of smooth alcohol are fine on the nose and on the palate. I like it a bit overproof. Complex, intriguing taste and aroma. I guess some sweetness infused by sherry casks and it's pleasant sweetness. Long exotic aftertaste.
Exceptional rum, minus one point only because LCBO must sell more Foursquare sorts which would score 10+.

I really like foursquare rums. I didn't realize at the time this was a limited edition so I have been savoring it. It is has a very smooth oakiness with a smooth, spicy finish.

Enjoyed at the tasting room at the distillery on February 15, 2024.

Nose: After the acetone, there was lots of oak , dried fruit, figs and brown sugar.

Taste/Palate: Caramelized bananas and a bit of fig on top of the oak

Finish: At the lower (for Foursquare) ABV, one could drink it all night and get no fatigue

Tonight’s Rum, Foursquare Rum Distillery Private Cask Selection 12 Year Old- The lost review. I say lost because I swear I did a review of this Rum last year but I can’t find it… So did I do it? Maybe I was drunk and the time and forgot to hit Post. But let’s get to it!

I like to colour of this Rum, a light copper and orange blend. It looks right. The nose I find tart orange and almond with an apricot undertow. It does have a hint of acetone but it’s not off-putting in the slightest.

On the lips in the first sip it’s delicate and has a reasonable sweetness, the heat builds quickly. We’ll see if following sips change. Several sips in the flavours evolve to brown sugar, orange, caramel, old pineapple and maybe dark raisins. I would classify the flavour as simply succulent.

The finish is long lasting with apricots and raisins hanging in there. There is a bit of pepper on the lips, no worries though, it’s easy. I love this Rum and find that it’s what I think Rum should be. Rich and flavourful. 10/10. Never mix this gem with anything!

Classic Foursquare enjoyed in the tasting room in Barbados among with several others. Nice depth and smooth on the pallet not as much depth with 2010 fresh from the barrel but quite nice.

FS ECS LCBO rum is bottled at 48% ABV and was tasted after FS Sagacity. While they have the same ABV they are completely different rums. On the nose this rum is not as sweet and/or appealing as the Sagacity. This rum is fine but not to the level of other FS ECS I have already sampled. Nice rum to have (collection purposes) but not one I would have doubles or triples of.

A light mahogany colour and a nose rich in vanilla. At 48% abv, it has little burn and a wonderful balanced flavour. I like it better than Foursquare Premise for sipping. $80 @ LCBO if you were lucky enough to get one.

I came across this by accident and learned later that there was a limited numbers of bottles to be had and hopefully the LCBO will bring this back. The colour of the rum really stands out in the bottle with a reddish hue to it. This aroma with hints of citrus. Best part of this rum is the slight overproof and helps give the first sip of this rum a really nice long after burn. Hints of pepper, apricot , ginger all noticeable. Smooth finish ... the rum is consistent with other West Indian rums but stands alone for taste. comparables would be chairmen’s , real McCoy and mt gay xo. Great rum!!!!
