This one is also a great versions from the heart collection series. With 1440 g / 100 LAA It is stronger (higher on esters) than the 1999 version. More powerfull (ABV 63) more taste of the classic Appleton notes.

No sugar or addictives added.

The heaviest of the 3 bottles. I was afraid to have an extremely ester-y rum, like some almost undrinkable 1500g/hL continental flavoured Jamaicans.

Compared to the others there is indeed a hint of glue but not in excess. Just enough to make this one a bit dirtier but in the good way.
The nose is very similar - rich, complex, zests, fruity esters, lots of wood and mineral extracts, herbal/medicinal - but I find it to be the most fruity and the most balanced of the 3.
The 63% abv is very well integrated. This nose is a beauty.
Palate : Same high-level as the others. A bit too much wood at first but as for the 2 others a drop of water just calms down the alcohol burn and keeps all the aromas untouched and even reveals some other subtle notes. Everlasting finish with again this menthol-y, fresh, medicinal notes at the end.

Wow :)

Please note that these expensive bottles will all disappoint you if you are into light, sweetened rons. We are speaking of very powerfull, dry, old and flavourful spirits. Absolutely great in their category but not for everyone tastes.

The Appleton Estate Hearts Collection 1995 is a Habitation Velier bottling that uses barrels that were allowed to store 25 years tropical after the rum was produced by the Appleton Estate Distillery in the pot style process. I also read that it could probably be a NY rum, which was used for this bottling. Who knows. The rum was bottled without additives, sugar or filtration with 63% cask strength.

In the nose, the rum is much drier than expected. Lots of wood and bourbon notes pair with fruity aromas and orange. Here the barrel is in the foreground. In addition, I find tobacco and candied fruits and vanilla. The nose is perfectly balanced and it meets my taste. On the palate, the rum is dry with a lot of barrel influence. Wood, tannins a hint of fruit, leather but also mint and orange. There are also medical notes. The rum opens again in the finish and the depth of the body comes again clearly with mint and some leather. Wood and some bitter substances are in the finish along with an earthy fresh mint note. It is drie and astringent.

I find the rum very appealing and great. For me the best from the three. 95>94>99. If I had the money, the bottle would be in my collection. The rum is very balanced and the long tropical storage did its job very well. A great rum. Jamaica is more than just funk.

Jde cítit opět pomerance, drevo a čokoládu . Přijde mi jako agricole. Další naprosté dělo

A 25 year old Appleton at cask strength. An unprecedented pot still rum bottled at cask strength only by Velier. I am curious to find a distillery character.

Nose: The rum literally jumps out of the glass after about 30 minutes. Deep sweetness of caramel, dark fruits like figs, plums and wood varnish greet me. However, there is still something musty about it, reminding me of peeled potatoes when the starch remains on the hands. This improves with longer time in the glass. After 45 minutes, this off-flavour has completely disappeared.
In the sweetness, I notice herbal aromas and orange zest that will develop more floral later. I have a weakness for caramel sweetness with herbs combined with heavy flavours.
A lot of wood influence is noticeable, a nice oak aroma lingers over all the notes. Not dominant, so I wouldn't guess 25 years of cask ageing here. However, the fantastic combination of sweet and heavy flavours reveals that this rum has been matured for a long time. A little deeper in the glass, there are wild leather aromas and a hint of vanilla.
A fantastic smell, though not a unique one. Such aromas are found in other rums such as Velier SVW 1996 at Monymusk EMB 2010 or Barbados Last Ward 2009 in a slightly different composition of course.

Taste: The rum starts slightly sweet and immediately becomes dry. I perceive tannins, wood varnish, strong wood influence and orange zest. Here you immediately notice the age, I would say it was overaged. Light sweetness of burnt sugar and dried fruits are noticeable.
In the middle, when it warms up, the sharpness increases and the orange zest with mint literally explodes. Again wood varnish, the bitter tannins and oak can be tasted. Behind this there is a slightly acidic citrus note which I like to perceive as star fruit.
The finish is long, the rum says goodbye with wood varnish and orange zest, then it becomes floral and leathery in flavour again. The mouthfeel is cool, menthol is perceptible.

Aftertaste: First wood varnish with tannins, orange zest, menthol, leather, later very floral.

An outstanding rum on the nose, which reveals a weakness on the palate. To say it mildly, it has reached an unfavourable age, which is why the fresh and sweet components have already degenerated into tannins. Nevertheless, it's age also has its charm. It can tell us a lot about its past youth in the nose and present the bitterness of its age in the taste. A rum with history and character.

Nose started with tobacco, old leather, dark chocolate, ester, vanilla, ending with dried fruits. Taste would develop from dark chocolate, roasted oak, vanilla, caramel, licorice, ending with roasted arabica coffee. Lovely beautiful dram again. I personally rate the elder brother a perfect 10 but certainly no shame for this bottle in finishing slightly behind the 1994.

Heavy, full and long. Really full of esters and fruits (orange), chocolate and wood. I personally prefer 1999 but this one is really intensive, same as 1994. You will not spend whole evening with this bottle, but take it it on special events, that's what it deserves. Extraordinary.

Was surprised to see this in a tiki bar, never seen them. Nose burns alcohol fwd thought it would be a overly strong overproof but actually goes down smooth for 63% abv. Slight funk of pot still but barely noticeable long bitter taste at end. Doesn't taste like any Appleton I’ve had it’s like a whole other brand. Definitely a keeper wish I knew where to get it
