Aroma is nice with fruits and wood. First taste is explosion of flavors - fruit, wood leather, flowers and many other layers. After is turni g more on dry side with wood and jamaicam funky tones, but very smoothed due to long aging. Aftertaste is a bit bitter, dry.and only average long. Otherwise it could be even 10 point.

Recently found this at Binny's and couldn't believe my luck - a 24 year old Long Pond rum for about $100! After buying it I saw that it was finished in rye barrels, which gave me a bad feeling...

The rye barrel has left a really strong impression, so much so, that most of the typical rum character has been smothered (in particular, the aroma). There is some unique synergism though, and a sort of satisfying fusion of fruit and rye spice on the finish. If I were to be blindfolded and given a glass only for sniffing, I would guess that this is a unique rye whiskey instead of rum, which is a bit disappointing.

I've turned to mixing with this rum, which has proven to be its strong point. Upon dilution, the rum character emerges and dominates, and the spiciness of the rye falls into a supporting role, resulting is a classy fusion of spiced caramel, old leather, and rum oil. This is terrific rum for an old-fashioned or in classic punch.

Wow special single cask release for my friends at the Mansion. Cask 7 bottle 51, blended with rums from Long Pond, ITP, & HJC 21.5 years in Bourbon barrells then another 2.5 years in Fernàndez casks, final finished for 6 months in American rye whisky cask. There’s a lot going on here 49.1% alcohol. Amber caramel color with a faint scent of caramel / butterscotch but nothing like dictator.

First taste slightly sweet, smooth, full complex exploding flavors finishing with a classic Jamaican funk with very little burn. The taste stays with you lingering for 5 minutes. Quite nice and very unique and particular.

I'm generally not a big fan of Jamaican rums, as i find them a bit dry, but this one is very nice.

Smells and tastes of leather, caramel, rye, oak, herbs, and spice. I really like it for a Jamaican rum!

I will do a comparison with the Extreme No4 series 24y Long Pond.

The smell is genious. It starts with dry fruits, leather, herbs and sweetness from the caramel. The herbs reminds me a little bit of Zacapa. Then after 5min I notice oranges and orange peels with tannins (this reminds me of Plantation Clarendon One time limited edition). The orange and anise flavors are developing and the smell turns floral. There are some more complex notes of wood varnish and leather.
This is a complex, old tropical aged Jamaica rum.
The nose is different to Extreme series. This one is more like a tropical Clarendon, the Extreme is like a Velier Forsynth.

The taste starts like a Clarendon with orange zests. I get immediately the tannins and wood, then some anise with apricots.
It's clearly an old rum. At the end are some dry fruits. The flavors are well known, no surprices for me.
In the middle I get dry fruits and more of oranges and anise with wood and tannins. Also heavy notes of wood varnish and leather. My mouth feels dry now.
The finish is spicy with oranges, anise, apricot, floral notes and wood. It's good but also a little bit too old. The tannins are too present in my opinion. I think some years earlier it was a little bit sweeter and better.
The aftertaste is tasty with orange, anise, some floral notes, apricot and tannins.

It's different to the Plantation Extreme. The extreme is more complex and darker in the taste with more dry fruits and apricots. Also better balanced between the aromas.

The nose was complex and very rich. The taste is not that balanced and a little bit too old.
The Clarendon one time limited edition offers als some of this aromas for a cheaper price. But this one is still worth it. I would rate this rum with 88 points.

Nose: dry fruits, herbs, caramel, orange zests, some tannins (orange peels), anise, oak, vanilla, wood varnish, floral note, leather.
Taste initial: orange zests, wood, tannins, anise, apricot, some sweetness (but not caramel)
Middle: dry fruits, anise, orange peels, wood, floral notes, wood varnish, tannins
Finish: spice, orange zests, anise, floral notes, wood
Aftertaste: orange, anise, some floral notes, apricot, tannins, wood

Sweetness: 2/5
Fruits: 3.5/5
Spice: 3/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Complexity: 3.5/5
Value (98€): 4/5

Sud č. 01
Lahev č. 51
Destilováno / Nalahvováno: 1996 / 2020
Těkavé látky: 1133 g/hlAA
Estery: 280 g/hlAA
Doslazování: 0 g/l

Rum zrál 21,5 roku v tropech v sudu po bourbonu,
2 roky kontinentálně v sudu po koňaku Ferrand a
6 měsíců v 200l sudu po žitné whisky z New York Distillery Comp.

Aroma: Krásně pronikavé tropické ovoce (banány, ananas, pomeranče), na pozadí květiny a velmi stopový, skoro nezaznamenatelný dotek ředidla.
Chuť: Trpce medová, zkvašené ovoce, příjemně štiplavá a nasládlá.
Dozvuk: Med, spousta švestek, blum a višní, které přecházejí do hořknoucích sušených švestek a meruněk. Velmi dlouhý.
Sladkost: /
Celá lahev
Porovnával jsem SC ročníky 1996 a 2000 (Clarendon): jsou celkem odlišné, oba naprosto vynikající, ale o fous lepší je za mě ročník 2000. Long Pond je ovocnější, Clarendon spíše techničtější. Oba velmi jemné a příjemné na vychutnávání.

- vůně typická Jamajka, jemná, nasládlá, přezrálé ovoce, banán, ovoce, vanilka
- chuť více nasládlá, % alkoholů jsou cítit, mix tropického sušeného ovoce
závěr sladkost ovoce a dřevitost
Skvělý 👏

This is my first Caribbean so might be a little bit biased.
The texture is semi-smooth (not watery but not very smooth either).
Then there is an explosive taste, so many aromas and spices that blend that it feels like an explosion. I felt caramel, anise, wood notes, pepper, and many unidentified spices.
Then it burns, my mouth gets numb but with a pleasant aftertaste.
You want more, but you have to wait a bit as the mouth is too numbed down.

Overall I tasted smoother sweeter rums but I enjoyed this one a lot. Felt the sweetness was just ideal, the burn maybe just a tad lower and the smoothness a tad higher would made it a 10.

Dark berries. Lovely and smooth. Hint of liquorice on the nose.
