Un nez caramel avec une touche de fumé une bouche ayant une attaque épicé des saveurs de caramel une longueur sur le grillé.
Une belle découverte.
Was a little disappointed by this one and so for the price would just stick to regular mount gay as it is a great sipping rum for a decent price.
I tried this rum on a whim and am pleasantly surprised by how unique the taste is. Given the price point I would say excellent value for the dollar, even though in Canada we get raped on liquor taxes which makes it more that probably anywhere else on the planet..
We "kregen" een fles van een vertegenwoordiger toen we in een restaurant zaten en aan de praat raakten over drank ;). De rum drinkt makkelijk en is niet al te scherp maar mist een beetje de zoetigheid die ik in een rum zoek.
There are a few rums that I purchase repeatedly. This one has moved to the top of my list based on taste, smoothness, character and price value.
This is hard to score because there are many rum drinkers who will rightly love this and others, like me, who find it not quite their favourite style. It's certainly very well-crafted and a succesful rum for what it does. There may well be, understandably, some polarising of views on it here.
I am not a fan of whisky and only fractionally more so of bourbon. I find them both quite harsh (the cheaper ones like paint-stripper) and I don't much care for being hit over the head with too much oak, smoke, earthiness or burn. However, even on the first sip this is not too bad, and as I've drank it more, I've started to like it more. It is certainly complex and strong in aroma, taste and aftertaste. I much prefer it to all the whiskies I've tried. Plantation Guyana and Appletons 12 are also a bit like whisky, but not as good as this - this has more layers and nuance. You can not only taste the oak and the bourbon, but you can taste the rum, the charred barrel, the molasses and whole lot more.
I like it more every time I try it, and although it will never quite join my favourite sippers due to that underlying whiskyishness, I like to have a bottle of it in the house for a change in tone.
I also offer it to friends who like whisky or bourbon.
If I loved whisky I'd give this a 9 or 10. As it is, it's a 8 for me: it's not the rumiest rum, but it is really good and an occasional joy.
The perfect rum for whiskey (scotch/irish) lovers, very woody & smokey, but with a nice complex Caribbean ooutflow. Also really good value for money, below 30€ the 1-liter bottle.
Like to explore and drink rum and whiskey pure, no ice. Smell, taste are wonderfull but it is a bit harsh. If you like bourbon or whiskey, you will like this.
finished in bourban oak barrels always a great choice
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I give this a solid 7.8 Far better than it is rated here. It is very smooth. Not sweet. Nice caramel, vanilla and smoke notes. Reasonably complex. Nice to sip. Better on ice than near. Nice finish. Nice price. A definite keeper in my liquor cabinet.
