I'm a fan of Mount Gay and while I prefer their XO, the black barrel is a fantastic value and thus why I give it an 7. It's a tad harsh in both the finish and also in the flavor profile. Not bad at all, just not as refined as my preferred rums. While it really does make a fantastic rum and coke, I can drink this neat or on the rocks and both are good experiences. Neat is a bit on the spicy and dry side (which I like) but on the rocks also brings out a nice more mellow flavor that is still slightly sweet and very pleasant. Every way to drink this rum is a good rum and for the price you feel liberated to try anything without any guilt. Highly recommend this one.

I would say, this rum falls into average group. Not bad but nothing special either.

If you let it breathe for a while, you are not going to feel alcohol at the beginning, and then you can enjoy whole range of taste and aroma. Which is complex and dry - I would say "difficult". Recommendable to non-beginners :)

A lighter dark blend with hints of black barrel ageing. I was hoping for more of those gingerbread and toffee notes the bottle mentions. Easy to enjoy neat, would not advise against it.

I found this very rounded and a mellow sipper. Also great in a cocktail. Usually I drink whisky, now I’m searching for rum without or only few sugar.

Lots of flavour, surprised me with very matured taste, cask comes through quite fast. The following evening it tasted maybe even better, maybe a hint toward Cognac in flavour but with much more cask, also hints of whiskey. Long and round aftertaste, really enjoyed it. Very complex taste. Not to sweet, maybe with a taste of caramel as well. Low price and great value, will absolutely buy this again.

This is fairly smooth with a small bite at the end but the flavor is decent. While it's still a moderately proofed rum, it's more powerful than some. That said, it's semi-sweet with a nutty flavor. All that adds up to a very solid rum. Definitely worth trying.

Tried this side by side with the Mount Gay XO and this was a clear winner with the charred casks adding more complexity and flavor. cinnamon and vanilla spice, very unique. Great value.

A light and fruity sweet aroma. Light flavor, not very thick, with a burn on the back. Not bad, but have had better.
