Mount Gay Black Barrel is a small batch, handcrafted rum created by master distiller Allen Smith. It is a blend of both matured double pot distillates and aged column distillates which are finished in Bourbon oak barrels.

Black barrel element is surely strong and because of it this really reminds me of a moderate whisky. Someone might like it, but next time I will be in the mood for whisky, I will buy whisky.
Mounty Gay obdržen jako dárek. Šťiplavá, dřevitá chuť
Solid rum. Is a little bit too bitter for my taste
Initial smell wasn’t very good - chemical/alcohol. Then I’m thinking … oh no. But then I sipped. I’m an advanced intermediate rum drinker - by no means an expert.
I could taste the caramel immediately, but in a good way. To me, it’s not as sweet as Diplomatico Reserva. Reminded me of Brach’s caramel candy squares I used to eat as a kid.
No burn, no bad after taste. And after a few great sips, I smelled again and could cleanly smell caramel.
I can’t wait to taste the “better” Dictador’s. But I will say that this was a fine introduction. I look forward to sipping XO.
But in the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the rest of the bottle. For $25 US, I’d say it is one hell of a rum. I’m kinda sad that it was the last bottle at TWN & they didn’t have a label on the shelf, so it was the last bottle :(
Can’t believe that the coffee and orange bottles were a higher price. I definitely recommend giving it a try!
But certainly not a "special" occasions rum. Pretty tasty, albeit lacking complexity.
I actually didn’t mind this one. The oak and that bit of char that comes through. But to me it was a mixer with some coke and it was phenomenal.
A sharp taste of alcohol but a long after taste of oak.
Oak taste is very good. Not too crazy about it as a sipping rum.
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It's somewhat on the sweeter side and it does burn a bit more, but I don't mind either.
