Good rum with a bright tastes; notes of wood are hidden in there. Tastes a little cheap, but worth a shot.

Considdering this was easily availible in my local supermarket it did not fill me with confidence. My previous experience with Mount Gay was Eclipse, very sweet and too much vanilla for my liking.

After reading some reviews on here, looking for something less sweet, something with less vanilla flavour, a little darker, but still well within the "Carribean Gold" taste genre and within an acceptable mixing budget I thing I struck Black Barrel Gold!

My intention with this is to mix with ginger ale on a 50/50 to 30/70 mix, a few drops of bitters and yup. It ticks that box firmly.

Don't get me wrong. It can easily be enjoye on the rocks and the subtle tastes of caramel and oak are the first to come out.

There is another, more expensive, offering from another brand that brings more to the table for my mixing, but is no good for sipping so looses out on that.

Versatility, check.
Value, check (£20 to £25 at my local UK supermarket!)

I might keep a good few of these in stock.

This is a fantastic rum, the price is about right for it. I'm not sure, why people are so divided on this one.
I'd recommend it on the rocks or straight. There's a hint of cherry in it it, towards the end it has a strong note of charred barrels. Recommended.

I was a little surprised by this one. It's priced quite a bit cheaper than the XO, yet there were things about it I enjoyed more. It does have a lighter taste than the XO, but the finish is much smoother. It seems to be a good introduction for those new to rum. However, I don't recommend it as a mixer. The flavor is just too light. I'd probably buy this again over the XO as I don't think the XO is worth the extra price.

If you have a sweet tooth or a delicate palate / weak stomach, you might find this a bit harsh. Whisky drinkers (like me, although I prefer rum) will like this. It's dry, it's oakey, it has some burn and it's relatively high on alchohol-content at 43%. It's the kind of rum that likes to flex its muscles. There is a caramel sweetness hidden in there, but you'll have to look for it. Pleasant though, when you eventually find it.

This is one of those rums that I wanted to add to my list. Will I buy it again? Yes!

Un nez hyper intéressant qui invite tout de suite à la dégustation mais un gout beaucoup plus lourd, l'impression de base dégringole assez vite. C'est assez long, aromatisés mais il en reste un arrière gout de déception

Just tried this as it came as a sampler with my bottle of Elipse I just bought. Not to bad on the rocks, smoother than Eclipse but I need to spend more time with it. It is stonger in that it's 86 proof vs 80 for Elipse. I will be buying a bottle and updating my review at a later date.
