Barbados | Aged | 43% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
Mount Gay Black Barrel is a small batch, handcrafted rum created by master distiller Allen Smith. It is a blend of both matured double pot distillates and aged column distillates which are finished in Bourbon oak barrels.

The black barrel definitely adds a layer of smoke / wood flavor and reduces the harsh alcoholic taste that young rums have, good for a dirty mojito or compliment to piΓ±a colada.
Very good tasting rum with a heavy aftertaste. One of my favorites.
Pure unadulterated bajan rum. Bourbon drinkers rejoice! At 96 proof it's hot, like a good bottled in bond. I can appreciate that burn! Butter, banana, oak, tobacco, citrus. It's Mt. Gay eclipse bigger brother. Reviews on this are polarized. I can understand why. Bourbon drinkers will love it.
It's somewhat on the sweeter side and it does burn a bit more, but I don't mind either.
Whiskey, whiskey and more whiskey. This rum has some classical rum notes, like sweetness and fruits, but to me it is half whiskey. It's not bad per say, just not one generally is looking for.
If one needs a stepping stone from whiskey to rum, I'd recommend it. Otherwise I'd buy a bottle of whiskey or a different bottle of rum.
Smooth mouth feel with slightly harsh burn in the throat that continues into the finish. Heavy charred oak flavors with a nuance of carmel. Perfectly unsweet! Long peppery finish which ties in well with the other flavors. Overall it's not a complex flavor bomb, but the dryness and peppery finish pushes it to a 7 from me.
Taste: Mostly smooth. Toasted wood. Light sweetness.
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

was gifted this on my 60th and so appreciative. I enjoyed going back to this bottle time and time again on those one drink evenings to put the day to a perfect conclusion.
