This is a LMDW (whisky.fr) exclusive.
A blend of four traditional Clairins aged for 18-24 months (Sajous, Vaval, Casimir and Le Rocher) in ex rum-casks (Bielle, Caroni, Mount Gay, etc.) and ex-whisky and ex-whiskey casks (Benriach, Widow Jane, Buffalo Trace, Jack Daniels, etc.).

The nose hase some typical high ester, but not very intensiv. Reminds me of Hampden or WPE, there was the one for German Rumfest. I get ester notes like glue, apple and a sour acid note first, vanilla, honey, apple and and some rotten fruits are also there. Deeper in the glas there is also some earth.
Strong nose for such a young rhum. Overall very fruity and fresh, I would gues in a blind tasting it's a strange Hampden.

The taste starts salty and a little bit watery but with high ester notes. I get some glue and apple first, with sour note, like acid but not that intensive. The initial taste turns also a little bit sweet, I get ripe fruits now and a sweetness like sugar cane.
The middle taste continues further with sugar cane, grasy notes and vanilla with apple, then it turns dirty. Hard do say what dirt this is, there are medical notes and bitter tannins.
The finish starts with spice and again with sugar cane, grasy and rotten notes and also some citrus.
The aftertaste is a little bit sour and fruity and I get also some smoke. Then apple, citrus, grasy notes rotten notes, some sweetness from sugar cane. After a while also some pepper.

It's a complex rhum with many flavors. It tastes like rotten fruits and is also dirty. Great stuff for just two years aging. If you like high ester stuff like Hampden and WPE you will like this one. I would rate this one with 86 points.

Jedná se o blend 4 Clairinů (Sajous, Vaval, Casimir a Le Rocher), které zrály 18 - 24 měsíců v sudech po rumu (Bielle, Caroni, Mount Gay...) a whisky (Benriach, Widow Jane, Buffalo Trace, Jack Daniels...). Zrání v těchto sudech mělo probíhat mezi dubnem 2017 - prosincem 2018.

Aroma:Spousta ovoce (banány, pomelo, pomeranče), květiny a mikrostopa ředidla a travnatosti.
Chuť: Ovocná a štiplavá, lehce hořknoucí.
Dozvuk: Trpce ovocný, med, vanilka a hořknoucí třtina s opětovnou ovocností.
Sladkost: 0/3
1. Ansyen 9/10
2. Sajous 8+/10
3. Vaval 8/10
4. Sonson 8/10
5. Le Rocher 6/10

Nose: The arrival is creamy and grassy, with gentle touches of spiced milk, morning dew on a football field, and petrichor. It has a herby side, specifically of thyme, fresh basil, and coriander. Then there are heavier yet still subtle flavors like baby back ribs covered in sweet barbecue sauce, milk chocolate, roasted green chili peppers, and tamarinds. Some time reveals a dusting of pepper, marker pens, and incense sticks. Like I said, a whirlwind! But it presents with much balance, too.

Palate: It starts out soft, slowly building to coriander, bean sprouts, and fresh mint. The mid-palate has oyster sauce, dry rub, and a rich zing of licorice sticks. A salty edge that introduces hints of gasoline but not in a bad way! A curious note that flits between a box of rubber bands and a nutty and crisp highball.

Finish: Long and grassy. Imagine having just finished slurping down a warm bowl of authentic Vietnamese pho. Licorice remains on the roof of the mouth. Light leather.

My first journey into Clairin territory, and I think I'm going to like trying more. Clairin rhum is typically known for their un-aged offerings, and these rhums are typically small scale operations, with natural fermentation of sugarcane juice or syrup (from the book Rum Revolution, Haiti sounds like a place of adventure for a rhum enthusiast, with around 500-or-so "clairin" distilleries, many which are challenging to get access to). This sample of Clairin is lightly aged and a blend of all four of Velier's partner clairins, bottled in Haiti 🇭🇹 for La Maison du Whisky.

On the nose I'm getting pear, funk, cane sugar, mint, gasoline, pepper, bitter, floral, caramel and honey.

The palate is fruity, almonds, Swedish berries, dry, oak and liquorice.

The finish is mint, ginger, cream and roasted coffee beans. This rum plays well with a bit of water.

Overall a complex rhum and a fantastic experience; I look forward to trying more!
