Today I have a rum from TRC, they bottled a 16y Diamond MDXC with a 4y in sherry aged finish.
Because I love this mark, I will compare it with my favourite Rum Artesanal 12y Diamond.
TRC is stronger with 61.7% abv although it's 4y older.

The nose is typical MDXC, a lot of molasses, honey and thx god the sherry influence is not dominant. The nose opens up after 30min.
It's quite earthy and I get spice from the alcohol. This rum is slightly less saturated as the 12y RA. Maybe because it was aged continental? I get also dry fruits and some red fruits from the sherry finish. The herbs are subtile, there is not much sage.
Maybe the bottle is fresh and it needs some evaporation to became more saturated. For now I prefer the 12y old RA.

The rum is also quite spicy in the taste, it tingels all the time in my mouth. I get burned sugar first, caramel, then molasses, some sage and honey. Quite typical taste, not very much sherry influence, that's the good news. Then some earth, wood and mint. The mint is also quite typical for the MDXC mark.
The rum gets warm and the middle taste continues with herbs (sage), then molasses, sweetness in form of burned sugar and honey. As soon as the taste gets earthy, the spice is rising and I get buttery note. The finish beginns with spice, molasses, honey, sage/mint and then at the end dry fruits with red fruits (sherry notes). As I said 4y sherry aging, but very subtile sherry influence.
The aftertaste is sweet with burned sugar, some sherry, molasses, herbs and mint. After 4cl my mouth is full of mint, I love this mark.

The 12y old is more saturated on the molasses side and less spicy. I don't know why this rum is still so strong after 16y of aging. I'm glad, that the sherry influence is not dominant and I got a good MDXC rum. But the 12y RA represents a better MDXC mark. With less burn, more molasses, sage and honey it's more tasty for me. I would rate this one with 88 points.
