Today I have a blend of the coffey column still and John Dore pot still. Aged separately for 4 years in ex-Bourbon casks, then blended together and aged for 10 more years making this a 14 year old. Just 46% abv.

Intensive nose, strong similarities with Mount Gay XO rum. Wood, candle wax, dry orange peels, some grains and barrel with earth. Hints of caramel and tobacco, also some cloves. Not exciting nose, I mean it's close to MG XO and therefore not special for me. MG is a little bit sweeter and rounder in the nose, the Chariman's is a little bit more complex and heavier.

Taste is very woody at the beginning. Just a little bit sweet with some grains and dry orange peels (tannins with wood). There are also some cloves. It's close to the MG profile.
The middle continues with orange peels, mandarine flavor and some caramel. All flavors are wrapped in wood with tannins.
Finish starts with spice, wood, tannins, hints of caramel and again the dry orange peels.
Overall a good taste but without any surprices.
I would rate it with 82 points.

I was curious and tasted MG XO side by side. The taste is a little bit sweeter, more watery and more fruity, but again not that complex. I would be satisfied with the mount gay in terms of price value.
