HGML esters 1000-1100 Continental Flavoured
Angel's Share: >64%
Bottles: 800
Distillation: Double Retort Pot Still
Aging: 9y tropical aging at Hampden
Mark: HGML (Hampden George MacFarquhar Lawson)
The nose starts rich, but not agressive. Everything is in a great balance and very fruity. This is the best Hampden nose I had so far. The nose is sweeter than a C<>H nose.
It gets more parfumed and grasy over time.
The taste starts sour, too sour in my opinion. The nose was much sweeter.
I get sour apple and orange, then the taste turns into acid. In the middle the sour notes reduces and the taste gets beautiful with malt and tropical fruits, then I get glue at the end.
The finish starts with spice, malt, caramel and pineapple, at the end are again the sour apples.
The aftertaste is beautiful.
The sour notes are too dominant in my opinion. The rest is very beautiful.
Therefore I would give it a rating of 90.
