Chairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Years Old Exclusive to Royal Mile Whiskies 56%.
Distilled pre-August 2006, this Rum is 100% Vendome distillate from the 2000 litre capacity Vendome Pot Still. It was matured in ex bourbon barrels for a full minimum period of 13 years at the distillery in St Lucia before bottling at 56% abv on 16th August 2019. Only 286 bottles.
The nose reminds me of a caroni. Medical note with wild leather, mint, burned sugar, gum. This is a dirty profile. Also some typical dry fruits are there.
The taste starts very medical with a lot of tannins. It's also very sharp, it tingels on my thongue for some time. The mouth gets dry. Sweet caramel, dry fruits and leather with gum are on my palet. As the rum gets warm, I get again leather, gum, medical note, after that black currants and dry plums. At the end of the middle taste, as the rum gets very warm anise is spreading everywhere in my mouth.
The finish starts very spicy, again with leather, gum, black currant and burned sugar.
The aftertaste begins with a lot of mint, after a while, leather and black currant rising on the palet.
This rum can beat every Caroni under 45%. It reminds me of Trinidad rum because of the strong medical note. I'm glad that such a rum can be produced in the current time.
Because there are some disbalances I would rate it with 89 points. It should be less spicy and with less tannins in the start for a rating above 90.
