Admiral Rodney Extra Old rum is produced in St. Lucia using a continuous still, and then aged in American oak casks for an average of 12 years.
The rum is named after British Naval Officer Admiral George Rodney, who in 1782 as the Governor of St. Lucia rebuffed the Spanish fleet in the "Battle of the Saints".
Priced at just over a half century, as I like to say the options for other fantastic spirits start to open up. Admiral Rodney is not a bad rum on the contrary it's quite good. It's smooth and maybe too much so. I'm convinced that rums benefit from being bottled above 40% ABV and unfortunately the Admiral is pedestrian in this test. Still yet of the 80 proof club this is one of the finer ones I've sampled.
A balanced sipper, only a fool would use this in a mixed cocktail, not one element overpowers the other. Very harmonious and sniffing it just now in the dead of winter brings images of the warm tropics. Palm trees swaying in a gentle breeze. It's that kind of rum.
But at this price for a slice of white sand visions, I'm likely to go elsewhere next time. I like my rum with a little more hair and a bit more authentic to what the good Admiral was probably drinking himself in his day.
Definitely give it a go if your flush with cash and you enjoy excellent down the middle agreeable rum.
Hold off if your looking to push the envelope.
En fin rom 👌 den skiller sig ikke rigtigt ud i mængden, men bestemt en god en
en kraftig pondus med noter af vanilie og frugter - super afballanceret
Nice citrus and a bit spicy. Sweetness tastes like caramel. I like this one a lot!
Good smooth rum from St Lucia which can be sipped without restraint offered in a nice square bottle with a very nice wooden cork !
This rum is good as a single drink on a cold winters day.
I've enjoyed many bottles of Adrmiral Rodney over the years. Prior to discovering Flor de Canya, this was my favourite. Having toured the distillery in person and seeing the great museum they also have, I was lucky enough to bring home a few bottles of this, and the (at the time) yet to be released 1931.
Round and with real body and leaves really long aftertaste in mouth. With one glas you can sip for long time!👍🏻😀
Nose: weak sweetnes overrun by tobbaco and ammonia.
Pallet: fatty oaky eith a medium burn.
Awesome looking bottle though.
Picked this up in St Lucia. Love it, great bottle, very tasty rum.
Excellent flavors and body, full of caramel without becoming too sweet. Nice after taste and long pleasant 'burn'
Excellent.
Spices and vanilla aroma with oak for this navy style rum. In mouth, you have toffe, toasted bread and oak.
Very smooth finish. Very nice rum. It makes me want to explore the range
This is a nice rum, no question about it. When I tried it it was in some hard concurrence.
Quite a dry/woody/smokey tasting rum, with a warm smooth finish. Well rounded rum but I personally prefer slightly sweeter rums
The bottle is nice, the cap consists of wood and natural cork and makes a great first impression. Nice packaging overall.
The rum itself isn't bad: Very round and with a hint of sweetness. He lacks a little bit of character though.
Nice looking bottle and excellent taste. Little smoking but sweet and rich.
I was a little bit disappointed, I felt vanilla but I didn't find a great noise nor taste
Tot ce-ti doresti de la un rom. Are miros elegant, nu zgarie, se simte indelungat. Are nuante de vanilie.
Buuun.. Un rom cu un gust bogat, plin și super rafinat. Un aftertaste spectaculos! Cred că doar "On the rocks"!
A very nice molasses-and-caramel presentation, quite smooth on the palate and richly flavorful. Sweet but not at all sweetened. Deserves a higher rating but the finish is confounding. Hints of tar and band-aids linger a little too prominently. It's really good rum, but could be great.
