Saint Lucia | Aged | 40% ABV
Admiral Rodney Extra Old rum is produced in St. Lucia using a continuous still, and then aged in American oak casks for an average of 12 years.
The rum is named after British Naval Officer Admiral George Rodney, who in 1782 as the Governor of St. Lucia rebuffed the Spanish fleet in the "Battle of the Saints".

This rum is good as a single drink on a cold winters day.
Good smooth rum from St Lucia which can be sipped without restraint offered in a nice square bottle with a very nice wooden cork !
Bottle: average
Nose:not so distinctive,suppressed by alcohol
Body: stronger
Tail: very strong,bourbon-like, tough-guy tail :)
If you like stronger, navy like rums...then try this one!
Vanille boisée ... Belle tinte.
A rum with a beautiful caramel color, a nose with a sweet and spicy notes. In the mouth, it is quite easy and not very complex, with a note of dry fruits (grape, prune ?). The length in the mouth is quite disappointing and very short. No great personality for this rum that is still quite consensual because easy to drink and not very marked on alcohol.
Lower mostly because I expected more. Love their spiced, really wanted to love their others, especially the more premium ones.
Taste = alcohol .... and ..... hmmm.....
This rum does something of a feint - the robust, squat, navy-style bottle, the name, the marketing fluff, everything hints a heavy, powerful, strong, navy rum. However, this rum is anything but that.
The visual presentation, as I said, is top notch, solid, thick, heavy bottle, massive wooden stopper, everything gives the impression of a prop you would find in a cabin of a naval officer. The smell is very nice, leathery, spicy, warm, inviting. The taste, however, tells us immediately this is a column still rum. Sweetish (I strongly suspect added sugar), apricot, marmelade-like, slightly acidic on entry, the body is however too thin and unremarkable, ending with quite pleasant, spicy tones. The finish is short, with mild burn, touch astringent, and everything fades quite fast.
It's not a bad sipper for those who like their rums mild and easy to drink, but it conflicts with its own presentation, so you may end up with a product you did not really want. I reflect that in my rating.

Notes of banana and a little tropical fruit.
"There is an alcohol burn. Banana and a little black grape, hints of vanilla contribute to the overall smoothness of the rum. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I've enjoyed many bottles of Adrmiral Rodney over the years. Prior to discovering Flor de Canya, this was my favourite. Having toured the distillery in person and seeing the great museum they also have, I was lucky enough to bring home a few bottles of this, and the (at the time) yet to be released 1931.
