Brown sugar and oak notes. It is a bit sweet, but not much complexity to it.
Lighter gold color. Nice, dry nose. Odd bit of sweetness, bit of bite, and dry finish. Not bad but probably not one that Iโll keep on hand.
I love the consistency of the solera rums making this a keeper. Soft and friendly with a sweet fruity face finish. It was a gentle hug of flavor. Very enjoyable neat.
Nose - Very sweet like frosting, (not the burnt sugar smell of a confection), with a hint of lemon to brighten it but not enough to hijack the scent. Also reminds me a little of the smell of rubbing alcohol: Clean, and light, and slightly astringent.
Flavor - It begins with a pronounced alcohol bite that overpowers the more subtle orange peel and citrus flavors. It is peppery and not overly sweet. The finish settles into a banana aftertaste and some of the pepper lingers by the third or fourth sip. I would mix this one with something like a pina colada so that the rum rises above the creamy flavors; or even tomato juice since the pepper and alcohol burst would stand-up to the heavy tomato flavor. While the orange peel flavor might complement that same taste in a cola, I think the pepper would distract from that sort of drink. According to a video from the distillers, the first three years of aging is accomplished using American bourbon barrels. Then it is aged in Spanish sherry casks where the solera aging is started. I believe it is the sweetness of the sherry that affects the nose, and may explain the softer presence of citrus in the rum.
Suitable for sipping.
There is a 21 year old expression by this company as well, both are very nice examples of the subtleties that can come from solera method aging.

Doesnโt have the depth of flavor of a darker rum. You can drink it but probably better as a mixer.
