Finally managed to find some Plantation Rum in South Africa!!! Well worth the search! Notes of dark brown (burnt) sugar, toffee and the Caribbean ocean!

Very light golden colour, almost like ginger ale.

Not much smell.

Slight chemicals on first taste but still good.

Tasted at the same time as the 20th anniversary xo and you can taste the same cognac finish. Just not as deep.

For the price this is a very good rum and was my introduction to plantation which is now one of my favourite run brands.

I disagree with people who claim this is not a sipping rum. For its price point i think it is a decent sipping rum. Brown sugar sweetness to it with no harsh after taste. Pretty smooth thru and thru.

As mentioned on here by others, the afterburn is a bit too harsh. Other than that, it's a good rum but overrated on other websites.

After I was so postively surprised by the Plantation Original Dark Rum Trinidad&Jamaica Blend I ordered this bottle, since it also won a price by the German Rum Festival. But I got a bit disapointed. It is sweet and buring, thats it. For arounf 23 € I now better ones and the Original Dark is more impressive for just 12 €. There is just one Limitation. The version I got was a Guatemala&Belize Blend, so maybe the only Guatelama bottle is better, but I don't know.

Sugar: 17 gpl. This rum has a sweet yet bold taste. The aroma and tastes I noticed were traces of vanilla, oak, tobacco, baking spices and just a touch of the Plantation XO tropical flavours. There is a fairly long after burn which is not harsh, to go with the bold taste and aroma of this rum. At $36 in Ontario this is a bargain! A high end mixing rum for sure, and it's got enough taste and character to be a good sipping rum with one cube of ice or not.
