In my opinion itโs almost flawless. Itโs uniquely flavoured. Full of the perfect blend of spice. Not overwhelming and leaves you wanting more after every sip. The only thing that could make it better is smoothing out the aftertaste.
From the get go it's obvious this is sweetened after distillation. But Kirk & Sweeney is still an enjoyable rum experience either as a casual sipper or in a simple cocktail like a daiquiri or a planter's punch (Just be sure not to add simple syrup). Palate is sweet with hints of almond, biscuit and heavy molasses. Aroma is has a *hint* of burning caramel. All in all not a regrettable purchase, but not a repeat purchase.
This rum is not particularly sweet, has a good color, a bit of a burn on the medium finish but not harsh. Overall, quite drinkable neat but there is a slightly off flavor that I am not good enough to identify. It has a slight chemical taste - may be alcohol and charred oak, I suppose. Nice bottle as well.
Huge disappointment, and better choices out there for the price. Very strong taste and smell of vanilla, so much so that I wonder if this is artificially flavored - like dumping a small bottle of vanilla essence into a bland rum. I can't believe that much vanilla can develop naturally from aging in a barrel, with pretty much no other flavors developing at the same time.
Not much else apart from the vanilla taste and smell. The only positive is that it doesn't have too much burn. Useless as a mixer too, because the smell of vanilla is overpowering.
Great in a tiki drink and tasty to sip on. Will have to review it more in depth after more analysis.
This is my third example of K&S. 18yo, 23yo and now 12. They are in perfect proportion of taste per age. I'm just wondering what is the price per age of everyone?
64/12=5.33$
90/18=5
104/23=4.5
So, the taste/$ is the best for the grandfather )
Anyway, all of them are highly recommended!
There is to much burn and not good flavour, it very basic. Would not recommend
I bought this from a local store, mostly out of excitement that there was finally something different. Looks nice, tastes fine, overpriced in relation to similar quality rum.
But I have enjoyed a few daiquiris with this at a local favorite spot, lounging under live oaks.
I canโt speak to it on its own, but with that simple & classic bit of mixing, itโs provided me with some pleasant memories
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The rum is smooth enough to sip however the flavor of it is just different than most rums I've tried and in a negative way for me. There is a bitterness that I'm just not enjoying as much as I would like to. I won't be buying another of these beautiful looking bottles.
Update: I like some sweetness in my rum and this is dominated by bitterness. I keep tasting it but then I make a bitter face and say "blehhh" after every sip. I really wanted to like this one but I just don't. The bottle I got was on sale and I'm almost convinced it was a bad batch or something based on everyone else's reviews here. I will continue to revisit this rum and update accordingly.
