Now this is some good stuff
My first Caroni, the extinct distillery from Trinidad, one of the many many casks that have made it around the world. Medium dark, almost cask strength 51.9% oily if not slightly medicinal taste. I don’t know had more rums than the average man, possibly the emperors new clothes, the Coors beer in Florida in the 1970’s. The exotic, what you can’t get hype. I had a heralded BBQ sauce once tasted like burnt rubber and cigarette butts but not many would admit it, but I am. Maybe just not my thing.
I have a second bottle to try this one a Velier will try another time. But don’t think I will buy again.
A rum from the German bottler Sansibar.
Cask no 104, 53.3%
The taste is a mix of woody and dirty notes. I get oak, some vanilla, gum, leather***, some solvent and a slightly sour note. I miss the fruits. It's not a very good nose.
Unsusual start with sour note. It's a little bit thin. Then vanilla, the rum turns bitter (tannins), leather, earth spice. In the middle it's still spicy, I get the gum, tannins, wood and some vanilla.
In the finish it's again a little bit spicy and again very dirty. Gum, tannins with earth, vanilla and wood.
This cask is a little bit strage, it goes in the direction of SBS Caronis. I miss the fruits.
Therefore 77 points.

Rum tasting in the Finnish wilderness with my good old buddy continued with Sansibar Caroni 1997 18y. Very nice bottle and label design. Deep golden color. Superb flavors to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Oak, fruits and sweet notes at the end. Simply spectacular.
