WOW, what a treat this is! I acquired a bottle of Foursquare 2008 about 2 months ago (still unopened) but tasted a seperate 1 oz sample today and this is sooooo good. Bottled at 60% ABV FS2008 is now my favorite rum having dethroned St. Nicholas Abbey 12 yr.

I am just getting into Foursquare rums (as it is super difficult to acquire in Canada) and I must say all the hype about FS rums is well deserved. Score: 10 of course.

On the beginning let me honestly say I'm not in love with FSQ. I'm probably still on the way :) Anyway, this sample I tasted is really good. Quite different from couple others I had chance try from FSQ during some tasting. This one is much smoother and rich despite higher abv. As many time said especial people like bourbon (typical fans of FSQ production) must love it. Those can add 1 point more for 11 to have it as a dream one :)

I was hesitant about this one, but with all the great reviews I decided to try it, especially after hearing it wasn’t too “bourbony”. Wow! So glad I took the chance on it. Even happier I bought a second bottle I was going to give to a buddy if I didn’t like it. No rum for him!

On the nose I had; caramel, burnt sugar, butter cream, spices, dried fruits, chocolate, and what reminded me of unripened bananas.

The initial taste, especially after wiping the bottle neck and licking my finger was SWEET! It was buttery on the palate with a strong, but not too overpowering woodiness. I had notes of caramel, chocolate, spices and a hint of dried fruits. It had a long finish with tobacco, coffee, a wee bit of smoke and a nice burn.

Phenomenal!

Aroma: Hodně bourbonová a laková vůně. Leštěnka na nábytek, hřebíček, dřevo, propolis. (84 b)
Chuť: Hřejivý, bourbonový, do exotického dřeva. 60% je dost znát, ale i přes svou sílu je dobře pitelný. Dochuť lehce ředidlová. (86 b)
Body: 85/100
Shrnutí: Ochutnávka při naší již 23. degustaci s kamarádem.

Tento rum právě nyní piji. Je potřeba si najít cestu s rumům s voltáží 60% jako je tento. Měl jsem jej poměrně dlouho nalitý ve skleničce a poté došlo k překvapení. Malinenko nasládlý, což je s podivem a srovnáním s FS2009, kde chuť při stejné voltáži skoro necítím. Když jej nechám chvíli na jazyku chuťové tóny se rozvíjejí, bohužel je neumím moc specifikovat detailně, ale chutná mi hodně. Pomalý a poměrně dlouhý dozvuk na jazyku je trochu do hroznů. Tento rum je prostě skvělý.

Had to about twist the arm of my dealer to get me one more bottle of this heavenly nectar. Fingers crossed the 2009 delivery will be just as good or we’ll be without! The Foursquare white labels are hard to find, auctioneers love them and no question why. Shame if hordes of bottles will never get drunk though, sacrilege I say.

If you see it, get the chance to drink it, do so, don’t hesitate.

Simply great Rum that you can still find in some shops

It’s a great rum, but it does deviate from most Barbados rums in that the sweetness level is pretty low. Lots of depth, but it is a little too alcohol-forward I think, making the molasses and vanilla recede too far into the background. Not a rum for cocktails and certainly not a terrific value. A great rum but overrated.
