Only thing subtle about this rum is the name. I finally came to an armed truce with this rum by adding 3 parts oregat, 2 parts Rose's lime juice, and 2 ounces of branch water to two parts rum.
Once you gang tackle this rum, it goes along peacefully. The banana OVERTONES have to be beaten into submission.
Which gives me an idea. Gonna have to try this as an ACTIVE ingredient in Bananas Foster.
Will get back to you on that one.
If I equated this rum to music like I do with coffee, this is Naw'leans Neville Brothers/The Meters funk of the 80's and 90's. Intense and personal.
If you ever just need to get drunk this is the real deal, High octane entertainment. As some reviews said it tastes and smells like gasoline, well yes sort of. but gas is worse.. I found I mix some Guava or Mango nectar and a little Lemonade or orange juice it masks the gas taste,LOL. but I still drink it sometimes it really does Git-R-Done
Classic over proof with one hell of a bite. Unique flavor that is not meant for everyone, this rum is great for mixed tropical drinks.
Pretty good as far as Rum goes. A bit strong but I love it!
I don't tend to be a fan of white rum, but this overproof version, direct from Jamaica (63%) is packed with rummy flavour. There is a slight hint of fruity sweetness to it, along with a well rounded rummy yummy flavour. If i drank it blind, I wouldn't have thought it was a white rum.
For those that don't like this rum, I did let the drink air for a few minutes (might have made the difference), and secondly, I'm a rum lover and will happily admit when a drink tastes bad, or like paint stripper, and this isn't either of those things.
Brilliant straight, great in a Cuba libre with lime.
Crystal clear. Smells great, banana overtones and alcohol nose. Hard to drink straight at 63% or 126 proof. Works great in tiki drinks and as a base for making allspice dram and shelf stabilization of flavored syrups. Not a sipping rum and not for the feint of heart. Funk. funk .fun
I’m not one for white, or, unaged rums. But uncharacteristically, I found myself on the precipice of being my wife’s in-home rum expert for a Halloween party punch. Naturally, Jamaican is my punch go-to. But to please an uneducated rum palate, and still make a party-pleasing, “boozy punch”, my first to mind is the legendary J Wray white. Hit the mark, nice added funk, strong drink.
Wow what a rum, blow your socks off. Ideal for exxxtra strong cocktails 😎
Exactly what it should be. Funky, over ripe tropical fruit. I like funky Jamaican rum so I definitely like this. Straight up it's a handful. With a cube of ice and sipping respectfully it's wonderful, if you like funky rum. Mixed with Ting and a lime twist it's refreshing and easy going!
If you like funky rum then go for it. If you don't then stay away but PLEASE don't try it and rate it horribly if you don't like funk. Be fair here. A true Jamaican classic!
Get notable citrus and vegetal/grassy aromas.
"Despite the funk and grassy aromas there is still a fair amount of sweetness on the nose. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

...the "terrible" smell leaves you shocked,...I waited 15 minutes before I had the balls to sip on it...amazing, how can something that basically stinks taste that good.
I have not tried it yet mixed, but I am sure it does the magic as well.
A keeper in my bar shelf...solid 7.5
