Heavy duty coconut flavor. Cannot determine if it is natural or artificial. Definitely does not appear to have a chemical taste or smell. However nothing definitive as to whether the coconut flavor is natural, artificial, or a combination of both. No clue from the Blue Chair Bay website.

Not a sipping rum and not the best coconut rum available but still a good, usable coconut rum for mixed drinks calling for coconut rum.

A little on the sweet side but good coconut flavor. Very smooth. No alcohol burn.

mixed with the real sugar Mexican Coca-Cola from Costco. This is really tasty, just enough coconut flavor but not overpowering. I'd like to try the Blue Chair Spiced Rum but minimum order in Pennsylvania is 3 bottles.

I believe this might be the best coconut rum I've tasted so far, not counting it's spiced sibling of course. I'm not crazy about coconut rums, but this is not overpowered by coconut flavors.

This was my introduction to rum. Very smooth. Great coconut flavor. Love to drink it with a splash of pineapple juice.

Full on Edit:
I guess Malibu Rum is so bad, anything gets raved about.

I was planning on trying some new tiki drinks that have Malibu as an ingredient. Like most people here, I remember Malibu as stupidly sweet and artificially coconut flavored liqueur.

So BCB has high ratings here and 40%(!) ABV? Okay, Banana Cream was a disappointment, but I decided to give this a try anway. OH, and it's 26.5% ABV. Not that different from Malibu.

I opened the bottle and sniffed it... and smelled nothing the first time. Poured some in a glass swirled it and got the faint odor of Sex Wax Coconut or suntan lotion (not that I have any problem with that). Sniffed the bottle again and almost smelled coconut there, but they certainly weren't concerned with the smell when they made this.

Taste: It's just sweet enough to be balanced (for me anyway), not cloying or syrupy. Probably is for a lot of other people here. Mostly just straight drinkable. Tastes unsurprisingly like coconut with a slight bitter aftertaste that made me think of suntan lotion again. The flavor is mostly clean.

And the rum flavor... Wait this is rum? There was a light bite, but that's it. Nothing rummy about it, really.

Tried this in a couple mixed drinks, and although the flavor straight is quiet mild, it's faint in the cocktails and a bit odd because of the Sex Wax smell.

Frustrated, I bought a bottle of Malibu, which I haven't in years, and compared these straight and in a cocktail side by side.

Both are about as sweet. (Yeah, that surprised me.) Malibu has less of a smell, but also less beachy(?) and surprisingly less artificial. Malibu is also thicker, which is noticeable when you swirl the glass. Malibu is also milder and burns even less.

In a cocktail? I tried the classic Lei Lani Volcano which has guava, pineapple and lime juices. Although the original recipe calls for Malibu, it's completely lost in the drink. I just couldn't taste a bit of coconut. Blue Chair Bay brought it's funky beach coconut smell lightly to the drink.
I'm not sure I love either.

You'd be better off getting some mildly aged rum and adding Coco Lopez... which is probably why Lei Lani Volcano 2.0 exists.

Disappointed on the whole, but this is a hair better than Malibu. Wouldn't buy it again though.

Tastes at the Forbidden Hole December 29 2023
Appearance: clear
Aroma: coconut/coconut suntan oil
Flavor: artificial coconut
Here's the problem: I've had better coconut rums, much better. So the artificial coconut flavor is very noticeable. It turns up hot, cools down and what is left is the weird off flavor of movie theater popcorn butter.
I did not enjoy this rum. I do understand why others might like it; I hope they get to try a good coconut rum one day.

In the nipper bottle from Toys R Us liquor for 99 cents. Tasted on 12/29/23. Pours clear. Aroma of suntan oil and wax. Medium coconut flavor thatโ€™s not too synthetic but has an odd black pepper finish. Unusual.

It is much better than things like Malibu when comparing this rum. Very nice smooth coconut taste, can drink straight. Light on the alcohol so nice mixer for drinks

Very delicious stuff. Great to always have around. No one dislikes it. My only criticism is that its coconut flavor can be interpreted as somewhat synthetic, but the truth is that Blue Chair Bay Coconut is so refreshing and smooth that the inorganic flavors of coconut are easily outweighed by the quality of the rum itself. It's more like a processed coconut "candy" flavor; however, Blue Chair Bay Coconut goes far beyond the taste of Bacardi Coconut, Malibu, or Parrot Bay. What's more is that it's easily and conveniently carried by many liquor stores across the US, so it's not difficult to find. I typically pick this up for $19 at Walmart Liquors. This rum can be enjoyed on its own or with Coke.
