Visited the Montebello Distillery while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Distillery tours were closed for the season, but very nice pour yourself tasting being offered at the distillery. Montebello Vieux 1982 Cuvee Prestige 25 was claimed to be the oldest Rhum Agricole for sale in Guadeloupe. Deep mahogany color. Very nice high end bottle and label design. Sweet Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with tropical fruits, cinnamon, grass and mild oak to your nose and palate. Very mild burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points. This is one of the best Rhum Agricole's out there.
Classic but distinguished bottle for this rum who received the highest award of the General Agricultural Competition in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999. The visual examination allows us to see a dark mahogany color. The nose is ample and reveals complex and delicate aromas. A very unusual aromatic palette of fruits like fig, citrus and woody notes. This one evolves on vegetable notes and dried fruits. Alcohol is present but does not dominate. It is necessary to leave this rum time to flourish and to give the full aromatic power. The final is on spices like cinnamon such as the wood. A beautiful discovery presented by Francis Lefaux of the house Montebello himself !
