Mount Gay XO Triple Cask

Lets start off negative by saying this aint the best rum i’ve ever tasted. But for the price, it beats out so so many (way) more expensive rums and, most importantly, gives you everything you are looking for in a sip of rum. Great smell, complexity of taste, smoothness, all qualities I appreciate in a good (top of the line) rum. It is my go to to enthousiast people about rum or to give to people who have only experienced the diplomaticos or don papa’s. Certainly the one rum that cant be missing on my self. I keep on buying it and I have an idea that won’t change for a very long time.

It smells of carmel and oak with a hint of dried fruit.
On the tongue it is tantalizing with full flavour of above as well as a firm bite to let you know it is actually 40%. Flavours of toasted brown sugar with dried fruit are prominent. The finish is proper and long leaving you enough time to dream of the island of origin.
After having this rum a couple times, the anticipation is still incredible. I try not to have it too often so as to make the bottle last longer. That’s how you know a good rum.

Near perfection. Bourbon-like smoothness and complexity. Vanilla on the nose with vanilla and tobacco complexity. Simply spectacular with a splash of coke.

trying it now along with the old version xo reserve cask, the old one just a decilter
left in the bottle, both rums sat in the glass half hour,
the old version in the nose less alcohol burn (almost empty bottle, opened around
9 months ago, so a little bit oxidized ?),
but in the mouth triple cask is better than the older one, less spices, more fruits, vanilla,
a lot of apricot, in the old version some little bitterness, here disappeared,
same abv of 43 %, if the old i gave 8, this one is around 9,5 for me !
just this is a little bit more expensive that the older one ...its the most fruity rum i ve tried so far, no additives, sorry if some people dont recognize the quality...
but ok blend of 5 to 17 old rum aged in ex American whiskey, ex bourbon and
ex cognac barrels, if we take quality/price, my rating will be a 10 !
their master select cost almost 3 times more, is it better ? yes but not 3 times better ...
just a little bit !

A very beautiful and drinkable rum. Smooth and balanced, not excessive in its flavours, sweet, fruity and slightly spicy. An excellent addition to Mount Gay catalogue

I have been looking for a good priced rum to use as a sipping rum for the evenings. I was using Kirk and Sweeney, but do not like their new reformulation. For the price, this is outstanding. You must like a good, strong rum without any added sugar. I have found most of the high rated sipping rums I have tried has too much added sugar. I want to taste the rum and not sugar. I drink this either neat or with a few (not more than 2) ice cubes. The melting water from the ice does release more flavours and makes the drink more subtle.

Incredibly smooth with great undertones of demerara. Admittedly, it's been months since I last had a bottle of this, but I can't stop thinking about it. It's great quality for the price (~£50) and readily available online. Certainly, one for a connoisseur to sip.

A very complex and powerful nose with aroma's of ripe apple, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee (caramel), ripe banana and dried fruit.
Exceptional soft, almost velvety mouth feeling. Aroma's of toffee, ripe banana, spices and nutty aroma's of oak.
A very long finish and perfectly balanced
