Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year rum

Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year

Barbados | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

The Real McCoy is a blend of rum produced from the distillation of blackstrap molasses, using a combination of both column and pot stills. The rum is aged for 5 years in Kentucky bourbon barrels, then blended with Bajan spring water.

The Real McCoy rum's heritage is based on the story of Bill McCoy, the pioneer rum runner of the prohibition era. McCoy fueled the Roaring Twenties by delivering over 2 million bottles by sea to New York speakeasies. He became well known for always delivering undiluted alcohol, unlike other rum runners who cut the liquor with prune juice, wood alcohol, or even turpentine, That is why he and his product became known as "The Real McCoy."

This is a real smooth spicy rum. It has a nice warm sensation to it with slight prickle on the tongue. This leads a moderate finish with a hint of herbal quality behind the spice. Incredibly smooth but does not have that Bajan kick to it that 3 year offers.

Good rum for the price and age. Lots of oak and spice, definitely a bourbon drinkers rum. I prefer Angostura 7yr though.

This was the Laka Lono Special Edition single barrel served at Laka Lono. Dark amber with caramel aroma. Mild sweet with a finishing pepper bite. This was actually better than the 12 year version.

I like the flavor as a sipper but it seems very light. This is a top shelf mixer for me.

This is my go to rum when I run out of my favorite ( in my reviews soon) as it mixes well and adds to but doesn't take over my rum based cocktails. Not sure it's worth the price but I will continue to keep it in stock.

un produit dans la lignée des rums britanniques mais trop cher

Yeah, not really impressed, it'd do in a pinch, but this is definitely a rum for mixing, not sipping. Not nearly as good as some other 5 year rums like the Plantation Barbados or the El Dorado 5. Mount Gay has more character for sure. For me, this one is mostly alcohol on the nose. Taste, a bit of vanilla and cinnamon, and other mild flavors from the bourbon casks, hint of wood, but not a lot else going on here other than alcohol. Dry, rough around the edges for sure.

Dette var den første rom vi blev præsenteret for.
En fin 5 års rom som kan drikkes af alle og som her blev brugt som ind justering af smagsløgene ;-)

Smells of butterscotch with some woody notes. Goes down smooth with a sweet flavour. No complaints. A bit expensive for a five year but its a better rum than most.

With a nice blend of vanilla, honey and caramel all coming from bourbon barrels, this rum is just plain delicious. This is the standard whenever you need a good, aged rum

Heard a lot about Real McCoy decided to try. Certainly not bad as a sipper, better if toned down with a splash of club soda. Tastes fairly strong straight, a bit bourbonish. My preference leans sweeter so only going 6
