Delicious , subtle flavours , sipped neat with ice , sweet and mellow ...vanilla , ripe banana with a hint of warm cinnamon bark ! One of my all time favourite rums . Makes a lovely after dinner drink to watch the sun setting over the Caribbean sea !
I drink spiced rum neat and like to have some low alcohol sippers available in addition to Kraken and Sailor Jerry, (my favorites) so i try out different shelf products available at my local stores. This rum tastes okay but it has a hardness that isnโt pleasurable. Canโt put my finger on it. I want to try another bottle again sometime.
Liked the price. Under $23 at TW in Delaware. Like the bottle design. Like the soft warm sweet vanilla banana and spice aroma. Like the taste. Not terribly sweet and aftertaste is smooth. But it just seems to be more of a liquor to put on ice cream or as an after dinner aperitif. There is no kick to it. It is only 36% alcohol but even that amount seems high for the taste. I do really like it but at the same time it feels like it comes up short and it is hard to say exactly why. But I am not disappointed at all in the purchse.
I was expecting this to be a great rum for my rum and cokes from the recommendations on here but it didn't deliver. It has a nice spice to it but I didn't get the flavor profile from it being mixed with coke that I was looking for. I shared it with a neighbor and he loved it so I gave him the bottle.
Spiced rum is my thing, I found this rum to be good but a bit on the boring side for flavors. Had a nice little burn at the end when drinking neat.
I have finished about half a bottle, drinking mixed and neat.
I still maintain that this rum was way too expensive for how mediocre it was.
It's good but not 26 US dollars good.
Great flavor with notes of vanilla and oak. A truly great sipping rum.
It has a bit of a bite to it and an almost sweet aftertaste. It is one of my favorites for rum and coke. Absolutely love it. I bought it originally because of the label. I finished my first bottle so quickly. It trumps Captain Morgan any day of the week for me.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A decent spiced rum

This is the third Brinley Gold Shipwreck rum I have reviewed and it is by far the best of the three. But still not a great rum. As spiced rums go it's pretty good but there are others I prefer. This one has more of a spiciness as in pepperiness that rapidly approaches after tasting the initial sweetness. This then turns into a burn that starts on the tongue then slowly moves down the throat. It's been aged for 4 years according to the label but it doesn't really show it. Tried it in some Coke Zero and the think I noticed is that the vanilla flavor is more noticeable while the other spices are muted. Odd. I would like to try this in some mixers calling for spiced rum.
