Easy rum to sip away, but the taste is mostly vanilla all the way.

I have read many criticasters destroying this rum, but in my humble opinion this is not accurate. The rum delivers exactly what you expect: a tasty rum for sipping.

I did not drink more then 2 glasses a day of this dark, caramel-colored beauty, and I think I cannot recommend it because of the impressive tones of Vanilla (unlike Zacapa, where you can enjoy a full bottle with friend on a relaxing day), but Don Papa gives the sipper a sweet tingle for the tastebuds.

My review is all about taste. I can't comment on the real or fake nature of the production.

I was bought this rum as a gift and I really enjoy sipping it. Sweet taste with strong vanilla scent and flavour. I very much enjoy taking this pretty bottle out the cabinet.

This was disgusting. What is it? No rum for sure! It's a kind of an artificial vanilla syrup with alcohol. Wouldn't even put it in a cake to avoid chemical intoxication of the whole family. Overly sweet and very Very artificial!! If you don't like Zacapa or Zaya, you'll hate this one! Take a decent rum, some vanilla pods and a bit of cane sugar and make it yourself, then at least you know what's inside!
Brrrrrr!

Vanilla is too much on the front and not in the background....I dont like that maybe can handle just a hint. I am using it to flavour my cooking when I am out of vanilla
Besides that the taste is very boring and mild

Jammer.

Very unique rum. Hard to make up my mind. I ordered 10 small rum samples, this was one of them. It certainly stood out for being so different, and it was smooth enough to enjoy straight on ice. Very sweet and a little spicy almost, I'd like to try it again, but the full bottle runs for about $50 here and I'm not convinced it's worth it.

Edit: I have a friend that visits The Philippines sometimes on business, so I have been able to get a full bottle for quite a cheap price. To be honest, it's too sweet. I can understand why so many people complained that it's not even a rum. The more rum you drink, the less you'll enjoy Don Papa.

At first, I was rather sceptical about rum from Philippines. But it turned out it is on par with classic Caribbean brands of similar price.

Funny a rum can act so much like marmite! I personally was introduced to this rum on a ski trip in the alps.. it complimented my chilly outdoor apres experience and warmed the cockles!
Sadly I dont recall its flavours to that of Zacappa and diplomatico that same day so I can only assume it was the lesser of the 3!

This is an excellent choice to surprise people who are not into rum.
I like the rich and sweet taste of orange.
