Philippines | Aged | 40% ABV
Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered.
The name Don Papa rum was inspired by Papa Isio, a leader of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish who led his island to independence before joining the main revolutionary movement.

This had a nice amount of complexity to it, though wasn't sure how to really drink it. At first it tasted like an overly flavoured rum that was a little too sweet, but on my second tasting I actually decided that this is a very nice drink. I am sure it is great with any mixer of choice, and I found it went very well with lemonade and ginger beer.
Dark golden rum with sweet vanilla and a slight bergamot/orange/citrus finish.
Worth trying.
Tastes like flavoured rum, I'd say bit sour... I'm not sure what to think of this rum.
I´m not enthusiastic supporter of Don Papa but I like it. Price is slightly higher.
Meget speciel duft, og smag med meget karamel, frugt og vanilje. Men kan lide den.
My first RUM ever - and I have to say it was delicious .. but its not a real RUM
Just had my first taste after having it recommended to be in a shop. Was going to buy the trusted Diplomatico RE but thought I'd try something new - seriously bad choice and bad advice!
This is not a proper rum and to be honest the warning signs are already printed on the label, where it recommends using it in cocktails. This tastes like water, alcohol, sugar, vanilla, bubble gum and brown colouring mixed together, aged for 7 days never mind the '7 years'.
Not touching this again, In a word, disgusting. I returned to the store the next day and got a different rum in exchange.
Mest positive var at bruge den i the. Her var den god👍
In my opinion heavy sweetened , there is much vanilla taste. Difficult to drink straight.
The worst rum ever. Sweet but in wierd way. Taste full of disharmony.

Smells a lot like a vanilla and lemonade ice cream float.
"For all its sweet sugariness, its really very drying and bitter on the palate once it all settles down."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

My first rum experience (edit)

out of 10
Noob rum review here! Aside from Bacardi or Captain Morgan, I had no rum experience until I tried a glass of Don Papa on a whim at dinner.
I was astounded with the aroma and flavor! I love sweet drinks and vanilla, so this did not disappoint. I realize now this is a highly polarizing rum, but it’s good as a sipping drink and good in cocktails too.
Since this I have tried a series of other brands, some of which I really like (Pyrat, Mount Gay XO), others I don’t like so much(Rhum JM, Abuelo 12).
If you like vanilla and a sweeter drink, you’ll like Don Papa. If you prefer drier drinks, pass on this and try something else.
EDIT
After experiencing quite a few more types of rum, I reduced my rating to a 5. The reason for this is that now the flavors which were so rich and inviting now seem chemical and like additives as opposed to natural. Frankly they’re a little glaring and unpleasant in comparison to higher end rums like Ron Zacapa XO or Diplomatico Ambassador. Also, more pure rums like RL Seales have a natural flavor to them that I now find more appealing.
This is a great mixing rum, however, on account of its aromas of caramel and vanilla.
