Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered.
The name Don Papa rum was inspired by Papa Isio, a leader of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish who led his island to independence before joining the main revolutionary movement.
Weak body, not many layers of taste - only sweet and candied fruit. No burning. Can be the choice for women.
Strong vanilla taste which must be added in.
Very drinkable neat but I'd choose lots of other rums ahead of this.
Zeer lekkere rum, heel zacht, lekkere nasmaak, coole fles.
Although you're paying largely for the bottle (which is beautiful). Within lies a smooth and buttery sweet vanilla and caramel, with some added oaky aged characteristics. Beautiful caramel colour also.
Plaisant et facile à boire. Très vanillé sur une finale d'agrumes.
A smooth sipping rum maybe a little to sweet but not to bad.
Philippines being not Rum country I had very little expectations from this piece. But I was positively surprised. Served straight it was quite pleasant, slightly sweet experience with smooth finish. Definitely worth another glass
If first impressions are anything to go by the bottle sells itself. It is a great looking present! The flavour are deep oak with a strong vanilla aftertaste great over just one ice cube. This will always have a place in my drinks cupboard.
I've tasted this rum and I never do it again... too, too and too sweet.
Too sweet, strong taste of vanilla and sweet citrus. Nice bottle, but nothing for people who dislike vanille flavor...
The bottle is truly beautiful. And that's about it for the upsides.
The smell is very sweet and feels quite artificial. Cough syrup is pretty good comparison. And by no means is this flavored just by aging in oak. The rum has a very strong smell of orange peel and there are some spices inside as well. That by itself would not be a problem if this rum was marketed as spiced rum, but it definitely is not.
This was a big disappointment for me.
Barva tmavší, výrazné aroma ideální pro.pomalé pití
For we who like a sweet rum, Don Papa is superbly pleasing, a delicious concoction befitting the wonderful Filipina & Filipino people. Aged 7 years in its basic version, Don Papa combines aspects wonderfully: Sweetness, vanilla, a touch of fruit flavours, & a pleasing good-character 'burn & bite' as one would wish from a top-quality rum. My suggestion is very little ice, perhaps only a chilled glass, so that one doesn't alter the tasty balance of Don Papa straight. Will have too much vanilla & sweetness for some - as if Captain Morgan with more bite - but Don Papa is a great sipper for some of the rest of us.
Don Papa rum is named after great late 1800s - early 1900s Filipino revolutionary Dionisio 'Papa Isio' Magbuelas, a 'babaylan' able to link to ancestral spirits; Don Papa was a rebel against both Spanish & Yank American occupiers. The wonderful label & canister of Don Papa, quite fit this superb rum from Negros island, Philippines, mellowed 7 years in oak near volcanic Mount Kanlaon by the Bleeding Heart Rum Co.
Too sweet nose, extreme taste of orange, sweet citrus taste. Different to lot of rums, the bottle is a masterpiece!
There ist som funny smell to start with - dark and bitter. Really like some medecin. It tastes like some mixture of oak and rubber. The best thing about this is the design of the paper on the bottle. Sorry.
Syrup' s taste, very strange, not sure of the production.Définitively not my rhum, no interest.
Granted this is a little bit of a fun bottle... It tastes synthetich somewhat like bubble gum. It is however taking the piss of all that I love about rum. This mass produced bottle has so much fake sweetening from sugar and vanilla that is can hardly go under the category rum?
