Ron Los Valientes 15-Year rum is produced from a combination of rums, 30% being column distilled from molasses and 70% being pot distilled from cane juice (Agricole). The rum is then aged up to 15 years in white oak casks.
The Ron Los Valientes company is a family owned distillery located Veracruz. Mexico that was founded in 1960. In Spanish 'Los Valientes' means valiant, and the name signifies the 'heros' of the Mexican revolution.
Tried the Ron Los Valientes 15y and the bottle looks pretty nice, but not high end. The color is quite deep dark. Smell test reveals a lot of oakiness and the woody theme continues all the way to your palate. The 15y has a much stronger burn than the 20y, but both exhibit a very strong woodiness.
After having the 10 year I thought I would try the 15 year. Again a very nice rum to sip. Slightly smoother then the 10 year witt the taste of molasses and spices that hit you pallet, with a nice smoky woody taste.
Molasses, sugarcane and old oak followed by burnt caramel. Its heavier on the nose than the 10 year old and the taste is more spicy and has more woody depth while the 10 year has more caramel. Added sugar? most likely but I don`t know.
This awesome guy from Mexico is a blend of Agricole and Molasses rums then aged 15 years in white oak barrels. You get a mellow blend of toffee, spicy chocolate and ginger and was genuinely pleasant on the rocks.
