Captain Morgan Private Stock rum is produced from molasses and aged for over 2 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being blended with spices.
The Captain Morgan brand was created in 1945 and named after the famous pirate and eventual governor of Jamaica Captain Henry Morgan.The rum's original home was Puerto Rico with it was distilled by Seralles, but is now St Croix.

Great flavor for the $$$. Straiggt on the rocks. Sweet on the nose. Not over sweet on the palate.
Not particularly outstanding but very satisfying spiced rum.

Of the dozen or so rums I have had, this is my second favorite. I was never a fan of captain Morgan spiced rums, but this has some really nice qualities and one can easily tell that the quality is higher than the cheaper bottles.

Ok as a sipping rum. I prefer to mix it with a touch of ginger ale

Obviously if one is looking for legit “good” rum, they steer clear of Captain Morgan altogether. The private Stock is actually decent though. Those who like rum on the sweeter side would probably be ok with it, especially as a mixer. You get a strong vanilla scent on the nose as well (which I enjoy). I keep a bottle to mix with coke on hand at all times.

More subtle spice than the usual spice and less vanilla which I am thankful for. The price is a bit pricey for a moderate range spiced rum. An ok spiced rum and the better one from Captain Morgan.

I received a half gallon of this as a gift. I was pleasantly surprised! Tasty and even sipped over ice and was pleased. Warm spices. Mild in the mouth and throat. Makes fantastic cocktails!

Private stock offers a more sophisticated “Morgan’s” taste to a classic recipe. The sweet notes taste almost as good as the bottle is to look at. This moderately priced bottle offers flavors and complexity similar to its higher priced competitors. Sip neat or on rocks and you can’t go wrong!
