Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Captain Morgan Private Stock rum is produced from molasses and aged for over 2 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being blended with spices.
The Captain Morgan brand was created in 1945 and named after the famous pirate and eventual governor of Jamaica Captain Henry Morgan. The rum's original home was Puerto Rico with it was distilled by Seralles, but is now St Croix.
Helt klart captain morgans bästa rom som funkar både bar o med cola
Smager af klassisk Captain Morgan, men uden den sprittede eftersmag, som er i den normale flaske.
Spiced rum can definitely be a welcome break from the normal rum if you don't take yourself too seriously. They are great with coke but its hard to get to passed the general 'spiced rum' taste. This will change your mind though. It can definitely be drank neat and offers a lot more than just a 'smoother Captain Morgan'.
Like this one, specially for the price. 1671 and the Private Stock are same price locally. I enjoy both and try to keep on hand
it is a sweet blend soft in the mouth with a small kick
By far, my favorite rum! Every few months I make sure to grab another top-shelf brand and have yet to find anything as smooth, spicy, and perfectly sweet as Private Stock. Reading the other reviews, it almost seems like people simply refuse to rate this highly because it's not aged (and expensive), and Captain is known for mixing... stop letting the money you spend influence your opinion of something. No, I'm not 18 and just started drinking, and I'm well aware of how people like to make claims of "complexity" in flavors to justify the high price tags... I also enjoy a nice robust cigar from time to time with some nice brandy or cognac, so I get the draw to certain really strong developed flavors.
But I also understand the psychology behind giving a product a higher (or lower) rating based on the price tag of the item, and I think that's what's going on here... There are some aged rums that have average ratings at 9 or higher, with their less-aged counterparts scored one point lower. the truth is, it's rare to find a single point of difference in aging something 10 more years. Sure, more age can make it smoother and a little more refined, but in all my personal taste testing I've rarely found something that costs twice as much that was actually 10% better... Really old rum that tastes like crap, is just "really old rum that tastes like crap" that you just spent a lot of money on and feel the need to justify the expense. This is GREAT rum, and it's affordable. Excellent for sipping neat, or on the rocks... for something a bit different, put it in your snifter and light it on fire to heat it up a bit! (maybe 10 seconds).
All that said, I am well aware that individual taste preference is a matter of qualia. My point is... This is by far the smoothest, best tasting top-shelf rum I've had to date (out of about 20 diff top-shelf options). don;t let "price" influence your review.
Private stock is not the best rum I've tasted but goes well with coke. Syrupy and nutty.
I've been generally sticking to the middle shelf of spiced and dark rums at my local
Stores, thought I would go up a shelf for $10 more. Didn't experience what I wanted, I was hoping for a 1671 flavour but not even close. Too much of a lemon citrus taste that hangs on all the way to the aftertaste. Didn't like it straight with cola or ginger beer. Just not for me.
My go to for years in college. For newer rum drinkers it's a good top shelf.
Sweet , spicy and easy to drink .
I would personally call/classify this a "flavored" AND a "spiced" rum, with its overpoweringly vanilla taste in its profile but that's the only reason I give this a 7 only, as I like it, myself. A "Christmas" rum, I'd call it, as it goes damn good in a glass/mug of egg-nog!!! I also like this with Coke, as it makes a nice rum and "vanilla coke" in just regular Coke. Like I said, taste is subjective to the individual, so while the Captain's Private Stock may not be for everyone, that's fine - I like it, myself, and that's what matters to me when I'm buying!
I enjoyed this rum quite a bit. Whether straight or mixed with cola it's a great sweet rum for the price. Probably one of the best captain Morgan rums I've had.
It seems to me that this one is on half way between rum and elixir. It is sweet and smooth, honey and orange tones with vanilla finish. I really liked it - place in my bar reserved.
This has to be the sweetest rum in my collection. Im not a big fan of Captain Morgan rums, for me they are bar rums. But this one is a great surprised, at this price point its a great sipping rum. If you are new to The rum scene this is a good entry level rum to start your collection.
En vinnare av rang..
Med tanke på var den kostar.
Om man gillar sötsaker..
They didn't even try with this one. Someone poured a large bag of sugar into a barrel of semi-aged bulk rum, added some vanilla and baking spices, and called it private stock.
The stuff tastes like acid reflux. I would actually serve it to my worst enemy because, who else?
I love sweet rums. So I expected to really like this one based on other people's reviews. It's definitely sweet and syrupy!
Notes of molasses, maple syrup, vanilla, and spice... this has all the flavors I like in a rum - except rum. It's a good drink for sure, but lacking in the rum department.
This was my first sipping rum I was given as a Bday gift. I enjoyed it so much it started me on my rum journey.
The amount of vanilla overwhelms anything else that might be an asset. Regular Capt. is a better product.
edited to add sugar test results- 45g
It's like kraken if kraken didn't suck. Not a smooth sipper, thick oily and sweet but gets way too much heat. I don't care for it that much because of the excessive amounts of molasses/brown sugar with vanilla. It makes a distinct diet coke and rum but I think there are better options. Especially for it's price (25$)
A pretty decent mixer especially with cola. Has a pretty heavy vanilla flavoring with hints of caramel, sort of makes cola taste like Vanilla Coke. Wouldn't drink it straight or on the rocks (although the label recommends it on the rocks!) but it's a good choice if you just want to pick up a relatively cheap commercial rum for mixing.
nice bottle and corked presentation... you can see they are aiming above the regular stock... but taste still needs refining ..doesnt beat sailor jerry on the taste front
