Bacardi Superior rum

Bacardi Superior

United States | Light | 40% ABV

Bacardi Superior Rum is the original Bacardi rum, dating back to 1862 when Don Facundo Bacardi Massó purchased his first rum distillery in Cuba. 150 years later, Bacardi Superior is now manufactured in Puerto Rico, but the recipe remains largely the same.

A unique strain of yeast discovered in the Cuban sugarcane fields is used to produce Bacardi Superior rum. The rum is filtered through charcoal, a process pioneered by Bacardi, before and after it is aged in oak barrels for at least one year.

Well, I was introduced to this rum at a 5 star restaurant in Nashville, TN on a business outing. I was sadden to hear that the only rums they carried was Bacardi Superior, 151 and Black. I only wanted a simple Rum an Coke in which they used Bacardi Superior for. As my title...Meh. That is all I could think or say about it. If the word "boring" would be suited for this type of rum then it greatly exceeds. The coke still tasted pretty much like coke without even a hit of any rum flavor. However it did have the slight kick typical of any alcoholic drink. Would have been better off with a coke and Vodka if I wanted to keep that boring flavor with a kick. I can only imagine how this would taste when used as a mixer with other drinks.

For cheap bottom shelf rums I will stick to Cruzan. They are surprisingly better in my opinion. With El Dorado Rums for my home private stock.

This is a standard rum that you see everywhere but as far as flavor and taste go, they are non-existent with this rum. It is cheap and easy to mix with anything without overpowering the drink.

I don’t drink white rum and this is the reason why!

It was my first rum and I was drinking it on the rocks with Sprite on the side. Unfortunately I managed to meet myself two times with fake rum and now I subconsciously hate it. It is just an average white rum. Probbably better options for cocktails too.

Another commercial Bacardi. Always follow the same rule: good for cheap drinking nights with your friend (and maybe for mixing), terribile for sipping

Inherited the bottle from Bill’s stash. Pours clear. Not much aroma beyond that of a very slight whiff of sugar cookie. Thin palate which reveals exactly its proof. Only a suggestion of a PR rum in flavor with an upfront candy sweetness that rapidly departs into a mild tongue burn. This is a benchmark rum, and obviously The Bat is capable of much better, but all things considered- this might be the hardest working rum in show business.

This should not be considered a rum but an alcohol carrier for cocktails

This is pure cancer in a bottle. Tastes chemical even if you mix it with cola. To drink pure, it is completely worthless. Drink a few glasses of it, guaranteed headache.

This has a weird flavor to it that turns me off completely. I don't know how to describe it at all. I think this is more for people trying to drink to get drunk rather than to appreciate the flavor.

There was almost no subtle rum flavor, and no nose. It was light, smooth, and sweet. I can imagine this being used in a mixed drink where it sweetens the mix, but does not disturb the other flavors, sort of like a syrup with a kick. It was not interesting enough to use as a sipping rum.

Heavy alcohol taste, not too much complexity or flavor.
