Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Zaya Gran Reserva Rum is a blend of 12 rums sourced from Trinidad and Tobago. Double-distilled from pure sugar cane in copper pot stills, the rums are aged in whiskey and bourbon oak barriques (225-liter barrels) for a up to 12 years.
Zaya rum is distilled by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. Originally made in Guatemala, Zaya Gran Reserva is now produced in Trinidad."
This was the first really good rum I placed upon my palate. I always thought that rum just naturally went with coke and that was just the way it was. NOT! This is an excellent Rum, I have been drinking it for 15 years and either my taste has changed or may be it is just not as good as it was originally. Anyhow, still great, I like it neat or once in a while will drink it 1:1 with coke over ice. Beautiful color and nice bottle presentation.
Com on , no wonder this Rum has Gold Medal Winner 2009 Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition. Silver Medal International Review of Spirits Award. Highly Reccommended by Beverage Tasting Institute, is sweet and easy to loved . Is versatile you can take it straight or on the rock, good with dessert or cigars after a meal. Very enjoyable .
Lovely bottle and that ends it. Found it nauseating. Strong, synthetic vanilla is the first flavour to hit you. It goes into my try in a cocktail shelf and probably will be binned a few years from now.
A little too sweet and a little too much vanilla for me. I seem to remember liking it better a few years ago. I'm not sure where that older bottle was from though.
edited to add sugar test results- 20g
To me, it doesn't have a lot of flavor. The taste is mellow, leathery and almost stale. It is smooth with very little bite and is a good sipper for the price.
I tried this for the first time at Rumtoberfest @ Bahama Breeze. To be sure, it had a wonderful aroma of vanilla and brown sugar. Those scents also translated to the taste and I believe there was just a slight touch of orange citrus as well as a touch of cocoa. I did not feel any smoke and this was extremely smooth.
Wonderful Trinidadian stuff, a unique sweetness. Don't let anyone waste this in a coke or mixed drink! Straight up or on the rocks or get off my deck!
Tastes like pure vanilla. Some might find Zaya a bit sweet, but truly loaded with flavor. Inexpensive for the quality.
I appear to be in the in the minority by not liking this rum, but it was moving away from rum into the realm of vanilla flavoured alcohols. My wife also commented upon the overwhelming vanilla scent and flavor. We ended up giving the bottle away.
Was pretty dissapointet with this one.. sweet but boring. Would deffinently buy other rums in this pricerange.
Zaya is sweet. There's a bit of complexity in there, enough to make it worth trying should you come across it at a bar, but unless you have a real sweet tooth don't buy a bottle. Might be good for sharing with friends who drink only sugary concoctions and find neat spirits unthinkable.
This is a nice rum on the sweet side with a fair amount of vanilla and toffee. It does lack a bit of complexity and I would proberly chose another rum in this price range next time (Diplomatico, Plantation 20 XO)
Wonderfully smooth with vanilla and sweet notes to it. A mild but well bodied flavor, which is very enjoyable to sip neat or use in a mixed drink.
**Update 1/18 - "new" formula Zaya. What a disappointment. I used to like this one a lot. Now I find it hard to even sip, as others have noted, due to it's astringent, cough syrup/vanilla extract rude-slap-in-the-palate taste it now possesses.
I'll manage to mix this in my mai-tai and it's okay to drink in a mixer, but not stand alone. I will not be buying this one again, sadly.
Zaya is a great sipping rum. Sweet with vanilla and caramel flavors. It has a nice finish. Enjoy it neat.
This rum has very strong vanilla aromas, but is not near as sweet as it leads you to think its going to be. Great for sipping, very smooth, and not too sweet. Worth the buy.
This rum is worth the money to try it. You will probably get more! Oodles of flavours. Too nice for anything but ice. And even that is optional!
amazingly smooth taste for a 12 year old..extremely smooth with nice soft flavors of vanilla and a few other subtle hints that you must experience for yourself ... and all with no burn in your throat... not a rum to be used with mix or even on the rocks,,,right up there with flora decana and zacapa or a good aged matusalem that are aged longer...this one is now my choice to just sit and pour a few ounces in nice glass and quietly sit and watch the world go by with a good cuban cigar
I love this rum! Beautiful dark color, smooth, with hints of chocolate in the flavor.
Another good mixer with cola. Much better on the rocks. Nice, sweet froth. Love it.
Sikke en duft og smag, der er dømt afslutningsfest i folkeskolen med alle de karameller der her bliver smidt i munden på mig. Super pris også.
Absolut et genkøb.
A full, rich, brown sugar warmth. Excellent sipping rum.
This one is easy to drink, and easy to like. Brown sugar all the way. Want to get your friends hooked on rum? Zaya. Great bottle too.
Price jumped in the past year or so as it really caught on in the northeast, but it's still worth it.
This rum is great! If you can find a bottle from Guatamala buy it. The newer ones are from Trinadad and just as tasty. Love it!
Dark color with a faint aroma of vanilla. It is definitely enjoyable as a sipping rum. First sips are warm and smooth with an enjoyable faint vanilla finish.
