Don’t get too excited Vizcaya’s “Cuban Formula” rum is actually made in the Dominican Republic. Is not 21 years and if you mixed is not a sin, but yes can be sipped as well. Not my favorite rum.

Nice nose, but a bit to much ethanol for me.
Rich taste but it goes to etanol after a while in the mouth..
But when swallowed.. The finish !!.. When the etanol taste leaves.. Just perfect..

Not terribly expensive but so wonderfully sweet. This is my favorite sipping rum. I've found it in NJ and DE.

7,5:Nose - With a generous pour in my tasting snifter, I initially sense a fair bit of astringency, but it’s fleeting. A swirl adds some oxygen and I can see droplets form then creep slowly back toward the bowl. After letting the rum sit for a minute or two, the astringency has dissipated, and luscious aromas of a bakery take over: butterscotch, caramel, banana and vanilla are all here and in a big way. There is also just a tiny hint of grassy funk that is very intriguing. Did this smooth operator carry over some agricole earthiness through all of that oak?
8:Palate-The rum washes over my tongue with an abundance of sweetness that is quickly followed by a kick of spice. The mouth feel is simultaneously slick and viscous. The butterscotch and caramel are prominent once again, as is the vanilla and banana. Toffee and raisins are here now as well.
8-The finish is long with a hint of orange, pineapple, and just the slightest bit of grassy rum funk mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg. Subsequent sips are just as pleasant as the first.

One of my favourite Dominicans....

Really easy to sip neat and is also an excellent choice for a rum old fashioned. Not the most complex of rums, but very much in the cuban style with tons of smoothness and hints of vanilla and tobacco. The only reason I don't give it a ten is because the Vizcaya Cask 12 exists and that's a better rum in my mind.

Decent rum for the price. Sweet and smooth but can find better for the price.

I found this one on the bottom shelf with dust on it at a major liquor store. Surprise...Surprise, this is a nice rum and won't break the bank. Well balanced, and smooth. It is a sweet rum but not too sweet.
Very nice sipper and even better with a nice cigar.

This is not exactly what I was expecting. It is almost more of a dessert rum than anything else. For me almost exactly like Brinley Gold but with a little more warmth to it, I am sure due to the little higher alcohol content. Not bad at all for a winter night but really nothing super special. Tastes a little flat like a soda that has been sitting out too long. At twice the price of Brinley I am a little disappointed and expected more and I know it is not classified as a spiced rum but it sure tastes like one to me.

I picked this one up because the bottle caught my eye but was surprised at how much I enjoyed it for the price. Without a doubt, the best Dominican rum I have tried so far.
The "nose" has a slight sweetness with a hint of vanilla, the first taste, exactly the same. Back taste has a delightful hint of pineapple with the slight earthy wood tones of the aging barrels.
The smoothness makes this a fine sipping rum and for the price, I will buy more.

Sweet fresh honey, cinammon, clove and beewax in the aroma, body start with sweet freshness booming to warming dark chocolate in the finish, touch of beewax in the body also.
