Admiral Nelson "Spiced" Rum is a rather bland rum. Don't get me wrong. This stuff is very smooth and easy to drink. Sweet but not too sweet. It's completely unoffensive in any way. But that is the problem too. The flavor is weak. There is not much going on besides a little vanilla. It's quite easy to sip and goes great in cola. But it doesn't add much either. Heaven Hill done a much better job with their Blackheart than this. But it's super cheap and very smooth. But if Captain Morgan is overload for you give this a try. At this price you can't lose.

Smell of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. Flavor follows suit with hints of cinnamon. Very light on smell and less spice than most rum. Maybe a good entry point for people new to rum

More or less tastes like a cheaper, slightly worse Captain Morgan. Bit more vapory, little bit of burn but gets the job done if you need to rip a shooter.

This is a very decent rum and it's smooth. I don't know if it's better than Captain Morgan, but certainly is it's equal in quality. I prefer the Admiral Nelson myself.

My standard go to mixer that I love to love. All the snob haters that tell you "Captain is better" are disgusted by the presence of this bottle. The funny thing is, they actually think Captain is good rum and have never sipped on anything unspiced.

This is an obvious Captain Morgan ripoff and tastes equally as bad.

I have been drinking Rum for over 20yrs. since a trip to the Bahama's and the beer was $40 a case a rum was less than $10 a bottle. Started drinking rum and experimenting with mixers. Starting drinking Appleton's Estate with coke then switched to Capt. Morgan then Sailor Jerry and switched to Dr. Pepper. They were all good but when I switched to Admiral Nelson and Reg. Dr. Pepper it was a marriage made in heaven. But about a month ago I tried Admiral Nelson and sugar free Dr. Pepper and It has taken it to a a few steps higher. For me it is the perfect drink and is low in calories and has a taste that I crave. If you ever have the chance try it and you will like it.

This is my vain attempt to try a rum that I would rate lower than my all time worst, Brugal Anejo. It just never happened again, and that one will keep it's lowly crown. At 70 proof, this one is all too smooth, but there is really nothing there. Nothing offensive and certainly nothing to rave about.

As I approach the 400 mark on my reviews, I figured that it is my duty to come up with a realistic rating for this one, which would be somewhere between those of frat boys and those of rum snobs. My rating of 4 sounds fine.

Is it better than Captain Morgan? No, but it is half the price. It was there so I tried it.

Harsh and unbalanced. An attempt at a Captain copycat that falls far short. Not worth it.
